ARTIFICIAL HUMAN NUMBER 16
Home Planet: Earth
Race: Mechanical Artificial Human
Fusions: None
Appearances: Dragon Ball Z

Excluding those of movie 7, Number 16 is Dr. Gero's strongest Artificial Human. However, in light of his weakness toward animals and nature in general, Dr. Gero considers him a failure. When Number 17 and Number 18 rebel, Dr. Gero admonishes them to leave Number 16 alone, as he's a failure. This, of course, is taken as encouragement and they instead activate him. The three of them then leave.

When Vegeta and the Z Senshi intercept them and the first battle begins, Number 16 refuses to take part, as Son Goku isn't present and the only person he wants to kill is Goku. After the battle, the Artificial Humans steal their pink van and drive to Mt. Paozu, guided by Number 16, who apparently was programmed with the information. When they arrive and find no one there, they go to Kame House, again probably with Number 16's guidance. He's completely disinterested in Number 17's fight with Piccolo, but finally steps up when Cell arrives because he recognizes a genuine threat to the Earth. He proves much stronger than anyone expected and seems to be a bit stronger than Cell. However, Cell manages to absorb Number 17 anyway and Number 16 is no longer any challenge to him. After being seriously damaged, Number 16 escapes with Number 18 while Tenshinhan holds Cell at bay with a barrage of Shin Kikohou blasts.

They hide together for a while and when Cell eventually finds them, Number 16 again tries to defend her alongside Trunks and Kuririn, but with a Taiyo-ken, Cell succeeds in absorbing Number 18. Number 16 pretty much just stands in the background for the following fights between Vegeta and Cell, then Trunks and Cell. When Cell is gone and the battle is over, Kuririn helps Number 16 back to the Capsule Corporation building, where he undergoes repairs by Bulma and Dr. Briefs.

The Cell Game comes and Number 16 stands on the sidelines while Mr. Satan and company, followed by Son Goku, and then finally, Son Gohan all fight Cell. During Gohan's fight, Number 16 suddenly latches on behind Cell and prepares to self-destruct. Everyone present will die, but at least Cell will be gone. Unfortunately, Number 16 didn't realize that Bulma had kind of removed his bomb, and so Cell simply blows him up.

Number 16's intact head bounces over toward Satan's group and he asks Satan to throw him to Gohan. Satan finally complies, and after reaching Gohan, Number 16 gives a short speech to Gohan that basically urges him to stop holding back and save the world. Cell strolls over and crushes the head, completing Number 16's destruction, but sending Gohan over the edge and into Super Saiya-jin 2.

As Number 16 was not a human, he was not killed but destroyed, and so when the wish is eventually made to bring back everyone Cell killed, Number 16 is not among them.
