SON GOHAN
Home Planet: Earth
Race: Half Saiya-jin/Half Human
Fusions: None
Appearances: Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT
The first son of the great warrior Goku, Gohan is one of the strongest, most important characters in Dragon Ball Z. Truth be told, Toriyama even claims that he calls DBZ "Gohan's Story," considering him the most important character, but only keeping Goku as the main character to please the fans.
Anyway, Gohan is first introduced at the age of four (not five as FUNimation dubbed) when Goku brings him to a friendly reunion with Master Roshi, Kuririn, and Bulma.
However, their party is soon crashed by the alien Raditz, who claims he is Goku's brother, and that Gohan and Goku are both of a powerful race of killing machines known as the Saiya-jins. He kidnaps Gohan, unaware of the power hidden within him, and uses him as a tool of blackmail against Goku.
Indeed, however, Gohan is a cry-baby, and he won't stop bawling. Annoyed, Raditz throws him into his space pod. That's when the Scouter mounted on his face reads Gohan's power level - at an amazing 710. Goku and Piccolo are only at a 300-400 power range!
Goku and Piccolo do arrive and battle the Saiya-jin. However, their attempts are futile. Inside the spherical space ship, Gohan hears the echoes of his father's cries in pain as Raditz cracks his ribs.
Thats when Gohan gets angry.
Enraged, he leaps up, blowing the space ship to pieces, and flipping out of a deep crater and landing perfectionally outside. Tears running down his cheeks, he screams at the clearly startled Raditz. "You....You hurt...!! MY DADDYYYYYYYY!" Then, pissed off to no boundaries, Gohan launches himself into Raditz's stomach, weakening the mighty warrior.
Gohan falls to the ground, and as his altitude deminishes, so does his power. Flopping back down to a one, an enraged Raditz states that Gohan's power relies on his emotion. Taking the child out in one swipe, he turns his back on Goku, heading towards the unconscious child.
Goku leaps up and grabs Raditz in a bear hug. Because of Gohan's blow, Raditz is weakened and Piccolo manages to kill both Goku and Raditz.
Raditz tells Piccolo of two stronger Saiya-jins which will arrive in one year, however. Piccolo, realizing what must be done, takes the still unconscious boy and flies off to a desolate, barren region.
Gohan wakes up, after being thrown into a lake, and sees Piccolo. Frightened, he starts screaming for his father. Fed up, Piccolo rips the boy out of the water and explains the situation. However, Gohan doesn't believe PIccolo when he says he's got a hidden power. To prove his point, Piccolo hurls Gohan by the head towards a mountain.
Angered, Gohan is enveloped in an aura of ki and shoots the mountain - blowing the mountain out of sight and leaving a long crater in its place.
Piccolo leaves Gohan in the wilderness for survival training. Over the months that he's forced to fare for himself, Gohan grows more mature, as well as stronger. In the last three months, however, Piccolo appears and tells Gohan that when he's snot sleeping or eating, he'll be sparring with the green warrior.
The three spar, and Piccolo pushes Gohan to a new level. However, despite the roughness and cruelty of Piccolo, the two form a strong bond, Piccolo experiencing his first taste of an emotion called "Love."
The Saiya-jins arrive, and Piccolo and Gohan await at the region they trained in, knowing the Saiya-jins will track their power levels with their scouters and arrive. However, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Chaou-Zu, and Yamcha show up as well.
Gohan is overwhelmed. Being his first actual fight, and being only five years old, Gohan basically stands there and watches in terror as the Saiya-jin Nappa picks off Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaou-Zu.
After throwing a fit of rage and angering Nappa, Gohan is stupefied with horror as Nappa launches a huge attack - destined to kill Gohan within a second. However, Piccolo dashes in, and stands spreadeagled between Gohan and the blast. It hits the Namek-sei-jin head on. When the dust clears, Piccolo's still standing in the same position. He falls to his knees, then onto his back.
Gohan rushes to his side. However, Piccolo is smiling, happy that he was able to help the only friend he's ever had. Piccolo talks with Gohan, thanking him for being the only friend, and encouraging him to fight. Then, with a smile on his bloody and beaten face, he dies.
Another fit of rage results, and Gohan beats Nappa around. However, he recovers quickly, and returns the favor in spades. Before he can finish off Kuririn and Gohan, however, Goku arrives to save the day.
Gohan and Kuririn are recovered with Senzu beans and then take a spectator position as Goku battles Vegeta. However, Gohan comes back into play when Vegeta gains the upper hand. Transforming into the giant ape of the Oozaru stage, Gohan beats Vegeta around in an oblivious rage. However, Vegeta manages to cut off his tail, turning him back into a boy again.
Vegeta's life is spared and he escapes. However, the heroes are faced with a new dilemna - because of Piccolo's death, the Dragon Balls have become unactive. However, the learn of Piccolo's home planet, Namek, and set their sites for the alien planet to ressurrect their dead friends.
Gohan, Kuririn, and Bulma set off for Namek and arrive, just in time to see Vegeta's space pod land. They also have their space ship conveniently blown up by the evil Freeza's henchmen, stranding them on the planet.
After dropping Bulma off at a hiding spot, Gohan and Kuririn witness Freeza and his henchmen destroying a Namek village. However, when Freeza and his henchmen begin to mess with a little Namek-sei-jin child, Gohan loses his temper. He leaps out of hiding, kicks Dodoria, the little boy's attacker, takes the boy, and runs.
After Dodoria chases Kuririn, Gohan, and the boy, Dodoria eventually gives up because he can't sense their kis when the trio goes into hiding.
They had back to where Bulma is hiding, and learn that Goku is on his way to help. All the have to do is stay alive for six days. The Namek-sei-jin boy introduces himself as Dende, and suggests that they should talk to the Eldest Namek-sei-jin, Saichoro, to recieve a Dragon Ball and get their power increased.
Gohan stays behind as Kuririn goes with Dende to get the Dragon Ball. However, Bulma notices an Dragon Ball nearby and Gohan runs to get it. However, what Gohan and Bulma don't know is that the Dragon Ball is actually one of Vegeta's that he had hidden.
Gohan arrives at the village, finding the ground littered with corpses. He buries them all, then takes the Dragon Ball. However, on the way back, he runs into Vegeta. He hides the Dragon Ball, then confronts Vegeta. However, Vegeta's in a good-mood because he's gotten the other six Dragon Balls and only needs to retrieve the one he hid to summon the dragon. He knees Gohan in the stomach, knocking out his breath.
Gohan rejoices over this and heads back. He arrives to find Kuririn and Bulma. They explain that while he was gona, Vegeta had come and stolen the Dragon Ball they'd recieved from Saichoro However, Kuririn recieved a little present from his trip. Thanks to Saichoro, Kuririn was able to recieve a massive power boost. As long as Gohan had sleeping power within him, Soichoro could release it. Gohan and Kuririn set out for Saichoro's house.
As they arrive, however, they realize Vegeta's behind them. Gohan goes and gets his sleeping power awakened, then comes out to challenge Vegeta. However, just as they are about to fight, they sense a power approaching. Realizing the threat at hand, Vegeta suggests they team up. The three form an uneasy alliance and head for Vegeta's hidden Dragon Balls.
However, just as they arrive, the Ginyu Force, Freeza's special forces. Gohan and Kuririn fight two on one against Guldo, an alien with the ability to freeze time. They do fine until Guldo reveals a nasty trick. Just as they are about to be killed, Vegeta steps in and saves them both.
Next, the trio faces Recoome, but all three are easily beaten. Just as it looks like its all over, Goku arrives to save the day. He easily defeats the rest of the Ginyu Force (except for Captian Ginyu), then tells Kuririn and Gohan to go get the unguarded Dragon Balls.
Gohan and Kuririn arrive at Freeza's ship. They find the balls as Vegeta looks on from a hiding spot. They sense a power, however, and see Goku arrive, wearing a Scouter with Jiece, a member of the Ginyu Force , at his side. Gohan realizes there's something wrong with his dad, as it turns out Captain Ginyu switched bodies with Goku.
Gohan and Kuririn fight as Goku arrives, in Ginyu's beaten body, to spectate. Ginyu is defeated, Goku's put in a rejuvination tank, Dende arrives with the password to the Dragon Balls, and everything seems to be fine and dandy. While Vegeta's asleep, they wish Piccolo back to life, wish him to Namek, and then are thinking over the third wish when an enraged Vegeta arrives. However, an even more pissed Freeza arrives.
Gohan basically stands by and watches as Freeza changes into a horrible monster and impales Kuririn on his horn. Flinging Kuririn off into the sea, Freeza taunts Gohan as Kuririn sinks to the ocean floor.
This pisses Gohan off.
Gohan beats the living crap out of Freeza, but doesn't kill him. Dende heals Kuririn, and Freeza's about to do some more damage when Piccolo arrives on the battlefield. Again, Gohan takes a spectating seat. That is, until Freeza transforms again and starts to kill Piccolo.
Gohan jumps in again, saving Piccolo's life, and almost kills Freeza with a giant Masenko. However, the Masenko exhausted Gohan. Once again, he takes a spectating seat. This one, a prolonged term. He, Piccolo, and Kuririn watch as Freeza transforms again, kills Vegeta, and Goku arrives to fight Freeza.
Freeza picks up Kuririn, and almost kills Piccolo, and Gohan watches as his father goes Super Saiya-jin. Taking the barely living Piccolo and Bulma, he's about to leave the planet in Goku's ship, when he returns to the battlefield one last time.
As Freeza fights and gloats over a recent beating he'd given Goku, he hears a call from behind him. "I won't let you leave here alive!" Gohan screams and rushes forward, once again beating the crap out of Freeza. This is the last time, however, and Gohan returns to the space ship and flies back to Earth.
About a half of a year passes. All the recently killed have been wished back to life, and everyone is awaiting the arrival of Goku. However, a robotic Freeza and his father, King Cold, arrive. A mysterious teenager appears and easily kills the pair, then tells the group, who watch in amazement, where and when Goku will land. They fly off to meet him, and the boy has a talk with Goku. Then, he flies away.
Goku tells everyone what he said. In three years, two powerful androids will appear, and he will come back to help the warriors fight them. Everyone goes their seperate ways to train. Gohan goes off to train for three years with Piccolo and Goku.
The big day comes, and they make a startling discovery - the androids don't have ki. They eventually find them, however, and realize how strong they are. Everyone takes turns training in the Room of Spirit and Time. Eventually, it is Goku and Gohan's turn to train. There is where Gohan reaches Super Saiya-jin for the first time. Both Goku and Gohan go through massive power boosts and come out better than ever.
A new monster has appeared, named Cell, and he's absorbed two of the actual three androids to reach his perfect stage. The third android, #16, joins forces with the Z Warriors. Cell holds a competition, called Cell's Game. If someone beats him, he'll spare the Earth. If no one can, everyone dies.
Goku and Gohan are the only two that stand a chance. Goku goes first, and does really good. He probably could have won, but he stops and says he wants Cell to fight someone way stronger than him. The heroes wonder who he's talking about, then he screams, "Its your turn, now, Gohan!"
Everyone's surprised, and Gohan goes to fight. However, he only gets beat around because he's not motivated enough to fight. #16's, however, who'd recently been blown to pieces, encourages Gohan to save the birds and nature that he loved so much. Then, Cell stomps on his head.
This is where Gohan got pissed.
He throws his head back and screamed, blowing into Super Saiya-jin level 2. He easily beats Cell around, who resorts to using a self-destruct mechanism. Goku uses his Instantaneous Movement technique to sacrifice his life and save Cell from blowing up the world.
However, Cell survives. Using the Spiritual encouragement of Goku via Kaiousama's back, Gohan is able to kill Cell in a massive Kamehameha.
Seven years pass. Peace reigns supreme, finally. Gohan has a little brother, Goten, and enrolls in High School, where he is easily, yet skeptically, accepted. Fighting crime through the alias of "The Great Saiyaman," Gohan also goes through the trouble of attempting to hide his power.
However, a new enemy appears. His name is Buu, a monster with the ability to recover from almost any attack. After beating Gohan within an inch of his life and killing Vegeta, Kaioshin, the God of the Kaious, realizes Gohan's the universe's only hope and takes him to his planet to train him.
There, Gohan trains with the Zed Sword as Goku, Kaioushin, and Kibit (Kaioushin's friend) watch on. However, the sword breaks open and KaiOoShin, the Kaioushin from ages ago, appears. He boasts that he can make Gohan powerful, but it will take 5 hours to power him up.
The old man begins the ritual, and Gohan is skeptical that it will work. However, after five hours, it does work and Gohan becomes unbelievably powerful, reaching his Mystic Gohan level. He rushes to fight Buu and beats him around until Evil Buu (a different form of Buu - while Gohan was gone, the innocent Buu and his evil split into two entities) absorbs Piccolo and Gotenks. Soon, after Goku arrives, Evil Buu absorbs Gohan, too.
Goku and Vegeta are able to rescue their absorbed friends, but they are eventually killed when the world's destroyed. However, when the Earth's ressurrected, Gohan helps contribute energy to Goku's giant Genki Dama that would eventually kill Buu.
Another 10 years pass. Finally, Gohan reaches the goal he had at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z - he's become a scholar. With less emphasis on fighting (even though he has the desire to fight), he has settled down with Videl, and even had a daughter named Pan.
In Dragon Ball GT, Son Gohan is little more than a supporting character. For some reason, he is suddenly able to turn Super Saiya-jin again, but he uses it very rarely; he appears only sporadically throughout most of the show and has no major part in any battle.
