SON GOKU
Home Planet: Vegeta
Race: Saiya-jin
Fusions: Vegetto (with Vegeta via Potara), Gogeta (with Vegeta via Fusion Dance)
Appearances: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT

Goku, known to other Saiya-jins as "Kakarotto," was sent to earth as a baby to destroy it. When he landed, Son Gohan found the baby and decided to take him in, naming him Goku. Goku wanted nothing to do with Gohan's generosity, as he was "programmed" to destroy everything on earth. Eventually, however, Goku fell into a ravine and his "programming" was destroyed and he was turned into a good, cheerful boy.

Gohan taught Goku martial arts, as well as how to use his Nyoi-Bo. However, one night, Goku caught a glimpse of the full moon and turned into a raging monkey, stomping on Gohan. Goku turned back to a normal baby, not knowing what had happened. Before dying, Gohan told Goku to never look at the full moon again.

Goku was left in the wilderness by himself, thinking that his grandfather's soul lived in the four stall Dragon Ball that his grandfather had left to him.

Eventually, Goku meets Bulma, who tells him the story of the Dragon Balls, which, when gathered, summon the dragon Shenlong who will grant any one wish. Goku and Bulma set out to gather the dragon balls.

From here, Bulma and Gohan meet tons of new characters, such as the evil Pilaf, the thieves Yamcha and Puar, the perverted Oolong and Kamesennin, Lunch who suffers severe mood swings when she sneezes, the flying cloud Kintoun who comes to Goku when he calls it, the Ox King, Tenshinhan, Chaou-Zu, Kuririn, and his daughter, Chi-Chi.

Goku fights and defeats Pilaf, as well as the Red Ribbon Army, and the Demon Piccolo and his son, the Piccolo we all know and love.

Throughout the series of Dragon Ball and most of Dragon Ball Z, Goku is the Earth's only hope, always fighting fair and for the sakes of others - never once cheating (He gave Cell a senzu so he could fight Gohan at full power and decided against taking the elixir from Karin while he was sleeping).

However, Goku isn't the sharpest nail in the box. While he's a genius at fighting, he's rather stupid, sometimes even clueless.

Goku's innocence, while not shown obviously in the American dub, is an obvious, if not somewhat important, trait to him in the Japanese show. Even when Goku's beaten within an inch of his life, he'll sit there with a smile on his face. When he blasted into space for the first time, he thought it had turned night-time really fast.

Because of his Saiya-jin heritage, Goku loves to fight and never hesitates to throw himself into a battle. He loves to train and make himself as strong as he possibly can be. Also, Goku, much like Vegeta, loves the challenge of a new enemy, and would rather fight fair than use common sense to stop them (etc., they decided to wait three years and fight the Artificial Humans instead of hunt out the secret lab they were in and destroy it).

He eventually marries Chi-Chi and together and they have a son named Son Gohan. Its here when Dragon Ball changes to Dragon Ball Z and Goku learns of his alien heritage. He and Piccolo battle Goku's evil brother Raditz, Goku sacrificing himself so Piccolo could shoot a beam to kill Raditz and Goku.

In the afterlife, Goku is trained by the powerful Kaiousama to fight against two more Saiya-jins, even more powerful than Raditz, that will be arriving a year after Goku and Raditz' death.

In the years time, Goku's power increases amazingly. In the fight against the two Saiya-jins, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaou-Zu are all killed by the the Saiya-jin Nappa while waiting for Goku to get back to help them.

When Goku does arrive, he easily defeats Nappa and battles against the amazingly powerful Vegeta. With the help of Kuririn, Gohan, and Yajirobee, Vegeta is eventually defeated and spared.

Next, the heroes head to the planet Namek to gather the Dragon Balls there to wish their friends back to life, because Piccolo and Kami had died - therefor, the Dragon Balls died as well.

At Namek, the group meets a young Namek named Dende. Then, Gohan, Kuririn, Goku, Dende, the resurrected Piccolo, and even Vegeta join forces to battle against the powerful Freeza and his henchmen.

Once again, the fate of the world is in Goku's hands. Vegeta and Dende are killed. Piccolo is severely injured. Then, Freeza kills Kuririn, which angers Goku, sending him into the stage of Super Saiya-jin, that increases Goku strength...the best way to describe this stage is probably "a walking nuclear war."

The battle which erupts is amazing. The two fight furiously, Freeza angering Goku further by making fun of Kuririn. The two eventually go COMPLETELY all out at each other, Freeza surprised, angered, and scared that he was forced to use 100% of his power.

Goku defeats Freeza, then goes back to earth, where everyone who had died's been wished back to life. Here he meets Trunks, the son of Vegeta and Bulma from the future, who can also go Super Saiya-jin. He tells them of a group of Artificial Humans that will attack in three years and tells them to train for it.

Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan train together and once again, the Z warriors battle a powerful enemy - The Artificial Humans. After losing to the Artificial Humans, the warriors retreat to Kami's lookout, where they devise a new plan.

Goku and Gohan enter the Room of Spirit and Time, where one day is a whole year in there. Training for a year straight, they become amazingly strong - literally reaching a new level entirely.

However, once they come out of the room, they learn of a new enemy - the monster Cell, whose gone around absorbing people through his tail, including the two Artificial Humans, which allows him to reach his perfect stage.

Being a good sport, Cell holds a competition. If someone can defeat him, Cell will spare the world. If all his challengers are killed, he destroys the earth. Gohan and Goku are the only two that stand a fighting chance against the powerful monster.

Goku allows Gohan to fight Cell, being the only one aware that Gohan's reached a new level. Cell, too, realizes this and transforms himself into a huge time bomb - more than powerful enough to blow the earth to bits.

Knowing what he must do, Goku transports Cell to Kaiousama's planet, where he explodes, killing Goku, Kaiousama, Bubbles, and Gregory.

Amazingly, Cell survives, but Gohan, with the spiritual support from his dead father talking via Kaiousama's telepathy, defeats him, saving the world.

7 years pass, and Goku is living in the afterlife with Kaiousama. Another Tenkachi Boudakai is held and Goku is granted one day of life to compete in it. On earth, he meets up with all his friends again, and meets his second son - Goten, a small boy who looks just like he did as a boy.

The heroes meet Kaioushin, the God of the Kaious, and he tells the heroes of a powerful enemy named Buu. They fight Buu and Vegeta is killed. Goku's day is up and he's forced to go back to Heaven, where he meets Gohan, who isn't dead, but's training to fight Buu with Kaioushin.

Goku helps train Gohan and switches status with KaiOoSama so he can come back to help fight Buu - KaiOoSama falls drops dead on his planet, and the halo over Goku's head disappears...then, KaiOoSama stands back up, a halo over his head.

Goku departs to fight Buu, a little after Gohan is absorbed. He arrives with Fusion Earrings, desperately seeking someone to fuse with. It seems like he'll be forced to fuse with Mr. Satan, until he senses the Ki of Vegeta.

Vegeta, who was sent by the Gods of the Afterlife, arrives just as Goku appears in front of him. Goku suggests the two fuse together, but Vegeta refuses. Goku held back from fighting all out on Vegeta earlier when he was Majin Vegeta, and this insults Vegeta. However, Goku evenetually persuades him to fuse, and the two form Vegetto - the strongest character in all of Dragon Ball.

Vegetto allows himself to be absorbed by Buu so he can rescue Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, and Fat Buu from inside of Evil Buu. They do, but shortly after, the Earth is destroyed, and the five that they rescued are perished.

Up on Kaioushin's planet, Goku battles Evil Buu, one on one. Eventually, Vegeta comes up with the idea of a giant Genki Dama. Goku forms it, using the power of everyone from Earth, as well as the inhabitants of the afterlife, and other planets, and eventually, Evil Buu is overwhelmed and killed.

10 years later, Goku meets Uubu, the reincarnated form of Evil Buu, who is good and pure, at a new Tenkachi Boudakai. Goku goes off to live with and train Ubuu, overwhelmingly excited with the concept of getting to spar with Uubu.

In Dragon Ball GT, Son Goku meets up with his old acquaintance, the emperor Pilaf, once again. Just as Pilaf had finally gotten his hands on some Dragon Balls and was about to make a wish, Goku shows up and Pilaf says, not to Shenlon, that he wishes Goku were still a kid so that he'd be easier to defeat. Shenlon grants this wish, leaving Pilaf out in the cold on world domination once again, and Goku is forced to travel throughout the universe to gather these Black Star Dragon Balls lest the Earth be destroyed a year later.

In space, child Son Goku meets plenty of new friends and enemies, but his strength carries him through pretty well. Eventually, they run into the next greatest threat to the universe: Bebi. Bebi ends up back on Earth, where he infects each of Goku's friends, making them his slaves. The Earth is eventually destroyed by the Black Star Dragon Balls, but not before the creation of a nearby new planet Plant, where Bebi and the human race relocate. The Earth is restored and Goku, on Plant, stares up at it and reaches Golden Oozaru stage. Through the interference of a very emotional Pan, however, this mindless ape comes to his senses and reaches Super Saiya-jin 4.

With his new power, Goku soon vanquishes Bebi. When Heaven and Hell are connected, however, his next enemy appears: Super 17, a combination of two Artificial Human 17s (one of which is our good old friend from Dragon Ball Z). Son Goku and Artificial Human 18 team up to finish off this one, but when the battle is over, they find that the Dragon Balls have been damaged somehow.

As it turns out, the Dragon Balls have finally been overloaded by all the wishes made to them over the years, spawning seven evil Dragons. Son Goku does battle with each one, all of whom are typical beings of pure evil, with the exception of Suu-Shenlon, the dragon of the Four Star Dragon Ball. He actually turns out to be a pretty good guy and helps Goku out in the battle against the final Dragon, Ii Shenlon of the One Star Dragon Ball. With Suu-Shenlon's defeat, Goku and Vegeta are forced to do it on their own, but Gogeta's fusion runs out before the job is done.

Ii Shenlon fires a powerful blast meant to destroy the Earth. Without even turning Super Saiya-jin, relying only on his care for his friends and family, his love of the Earth, his will to survive, and his determination to win, Son Goku neutralizes the blast and saves the world from destruction, but unfortunately it seems it cost him his life. After a futile struggle on the part of the other Z Senshi, however, Son Goku, still very much alive, rises out of the blast crater with an enormous Genki Dama over his head. Gathering the energy of all of his friends throughout the universe, Son Goku deals one final decisive blow to Ii Shenlon, killing him and restoring the Dragon Balls. Thus, Goku has finally transcended concepts of simple strength vs. strength and manages to win the battle with his will and the help of all his friends.

Shenlon summons himself, but is not willing to grant anymore wishes. However, Goku bargains with him, and Shenlon agrees to revive everyone who has been killed. Humanity will have to rebuild the Earth on its own, but the dead will at least be resurrected. In return, Goku is told to ride on Shenlon's back. Shenlon takes him around the world and he drops by to say goodbye to all his old friends. After his farewells, Goku absorbs each Dragon Ball, taking the four star ball last, and disappears with Shenlon.

Decades later, with little Pan now a sick old lady, Goku Jr., Goku's great-great-grandson, runs off to find the Dragon Balls so that he can help Pan get well. On his journey, he experiences many trials and tribulations, but is not confident and does not realize his strength; eventually, he meets Son Goku, who arrives from wherever he went with Shenlon -- and who also hasn't aged a day -- and gives him some advice.

A bit later, Goku Jr. takes part in the Tenkaichi Budokai, where he meets Vegeta Jr. in battle. Neither boy knows each other, but both can turn Super Saiya-jin. As Pan watches the battle from the stands, she spies someone familiar in the crowd below. Before she can get down there, though, Son Goku has disappeared into the sea of people.
