VEGETA
Home Planet: Vegeta
Race: Saiya-jin
Fusions: Vegetto (with Son Goku via Potara) and Gogeta (with Son Goku via Fusion Dance)
Appearances: Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT

Vegeta was first introduced as one of the Saiya-jins that recieved Raditz' dying message. After learning of the mystical Dragon Balls that could grant anyone one wish, Vegeta and his childhood guardian, Nappa, set out on a year long journey across space to Earth - with immortality as their goal.

However, Vegeta's story didn't neccessarily start where he was introduced. Like everyone else, he too had a childhood. He's the Prince of the great Saiya-jin planet Vegeta, which was named after his father, King Vegeta, just as he too is named. One day, however, the might and powerful Freeza led an attack against the planet Vegeta, killing King Vegeta and destroying the planet - along with all but four remaining Saiya-jins.

Luckily, Vegeta and Nappa were out conquering a planet at the time and were spared from Freeza's attack. However, this wasn't just any old coinsidence - Freeza had planned to spare Vegeta from the attack...

Anyway, Vegeta grew up to a life of violence and destructing. Destroying one planet after another with Nappa at his side, he also trained hard. Using plantable "Saibamen" as his sparring partners, he grew stronger and stronger until he was able to kill many Saibamen at the same time.

After a year of traveling through deep space to the boondocks of the galaxy, Vegeta and Nappa land on Earth, upon where they immediately destroy the city they land in. Sensing the powers of the Z Fighters, the Saiya-jins fly to meet the powers in an isolated fighting spot where they find Piccolo, Gohan, and Kuririn, who are soon joined by Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaou-Zu.

After sitting out most of the fight while Nappa kills Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chaou-Zu, and Piccolo, Vegeta eventually gets fed up with Nappa's incompetence when Goku arrives, for Goku toys with the massive Saiya-jin. Fed up with him, Vegeta mercilessly kills Nappa.

The battle with Goku and Vegeta is a great one, eventually ending with Goku winning, thanks to Gohan, Kuririn, and Yajirobee's assistance. However, Goku spares the Prince's life, and he escapes, battered and bleeding, in the same space pod that he came in.

Vegeta lands at one of the many outpost planets owned by Freeza, where he recovers and learns that Freeza has already set off towards Namek - the only place with Dragon Balls now that Piccolo is dead - in search of immortality.

Enraged, a recovered Vegeta leaps into his pod and sets off towards Namek.

Upon landing, Vegeta easily kills many of Freeza's henchmen, eventually gathering six of the dragon balls, as well as one he's hidden in a Namek village he destroyed.

Vegeta sets off to retrieve the Dragon Ball from the village, unaware that Gohan's already obtained it and is heading straight for him with it. The two meet in the middle, Gohan is able to hide the ball, and Vegeta spares the young warrior, for he's in a good mood - he's about to become immortal, after all this time.

Or is he? Upon realizing that he's been tricked, Vegeta lapses into extreme rage, blasting off in Gohan's direction - ready to kill.

Vegeta finds Gohan and Kuririn at the Eldest Namek's tower, where they all sense a strong power approaching. Its the Ginyu Force, and the three are forced to form an uneasy alliance.

The trio struggles with the Ginyu Force until Goku arrives and turns the tables in their favor. Vegeta, however, proves he can't be trusted, and ditches Goku, Gohan, and Kuririn.

After defeating the Ginyu Force, Vegeta, Gohan, Goku, Kuririn, Dende, and the recently revived, as well as fused, Piccolo are forced to join together to fight Freeza. After fighting valiantly, and even saving Gohan's life, alas, Vegeta is killed by Freeza. With annoyance, Freeza fires a shot straight through an already dying Vegeta's heart.

Revived by the wish to ressurrect everyone killed by Freeza, Vegeta is transported to Earth. After Goku takes care of Freeza, however, they meet an mysterious and amazingly powerful teenager named Trunks - who tells the group that in three years, two Artificial Humans will reak havoc on the world, eventually killing everyone except for Gohan and himself, unless they train. After telling them that he, too, will return in three years time, he jumps back in his time machine and vanishes.

However, he didn't tell Vegeta that he was, in fact, his son.

The next three years, Vegeta trains in 400 gravities, in an attempt to gain Super Saiya-jin status. Sometime within the three years of training, Bulma and Vegeta develop a relationship, and eventually have baby together - Trunks.

Vegeta does, in fact, reach Super Saiya-jin - After getting angered at his own limits, his rage causes the transformation.

However, even with his new powers, he's no match for the Artificial Humans. Passing the numerous chances to destroy the Artificial Humans and save the Earth easily just because of his own arrogance, Vegeta is easily defeated by the Artificial Humans, despite his new powers.

Even with his amazing Super Saiya-jin powers, Vegeta is forced to take a "Stare in Amazement and Disbelief" spot alongside Kuririn, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Trunks, as Goku and Gohan take on Cell.

However, during the battle, Vegeta begins to change. As much as he'd like to think his heart was pure evil...it isn't. This is showed quite obviously after Goku sacrifices himself to protect the Earth and Cell survives, jumping out from the rubble and blasting a beam straight through Trunks. Trunks is dead before he hits the ground.

Enraged, Vegeta attacks the monster, but doesn't stand a chance. Cell powers up an attack and fires it, but Gohan steps in and takes it for Vegeta, emerging from the dust with half his body bloody.

Vegeta, laying on the ground, stares in disbelief. He hesitantly mutters, "Th-thank you, Gohan..."

Cell is defeated and destroyed however, and everyone killed by him is revived with the Dragon Balls.

Seven years later, Trunks from the future has gone back to his time, the present time's Trunks has grown to be 7 years old, and Bulma and Vegeta have settled down.

However, the peace will not last.

A powerful magician named Babi-Di, and an amazingly strong monster named Buu emerge, and the Z Warriors, along with Goku and Vegeta, are forced to fight.

This is another important scene for Vegeta's personality, finally uncovering the goodness in him. After basically "selling his soul" to Buu so he can become Majin Vegeta, he battles with Goku, finally on Goku's level. However, Vegeta takes a cheap shot on Goku during a break, and leaves him there, unconscious, knowing that Goku would stop him from doing what he's about to do.

He heads for Buu and Babi-Di, turning on his new "master," and fights, albeit he stands no chance. After hugging his son good-bye, and knocking both Trunks and Goten out cold so they won't get hurt. After talking shortly with Piccolo, he tells the Namek warrior to take the kids and get away. Then, he flies up into the air.

He powers up momentarily. "Goodbye Bulma...Trunks....and you, too, Kakarotto..." he thinks to himself right before he begins his Kamikaze attack.

He blows Buu into millions of pieces. Then, slowly, he topples over and falls to the ground below, shattering when he impacts. However, Buu regenerates himself, and Vegeta's sacrifice was all in vain.

The gods of the afterlife, recognizing the threat caused by Buu, send Vegeta to fight him. Vegeta, knowing perfectly well he'll be killed, goes to Earth anyway with a smirk on his face. At least he'll get a last, good fight. However, upon arriving, Goku appears with fusion earrings.

Goku suggests that Vegeta fuses with him. However, Vegeta won't do it. Goku held back the fact that he could go SSJ3 in the fight earlier when Vegeta was a Majin. This insults Vegeta, and, needless to say, pisses him off. However, Goku persuades Vegeta to fuse with him, and Vegeta skeptically puts on the earring.

Together, Vegeta and Goku form Vegetto, the strongest character in all of Dragon Ball. After kicking Buu around for a while, he allows himself to be absorbed so he can rescue Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks, all of which whom were absorbed to make Buu stronger.

However, they also find the Fat Buu in there, and free him too. After escaping, the newest, most powerful, evil, and heartless form of Evil Buu yet, destroys the Earth. However, with the help of Kaioushin, Vegeta, Goku, Mr. Satan, Beh (Fat Buu's dog), Dende, and Fat Buu escape to his Holy Sphere. However, Goten, Gohan, Trunks, and Piccolo are left on Earth.

Up on Kaioushin's planet, the group watches in terror as Evil Buu gathers himself together in the middle of space, then, using Goku's Instantaneous Movement ability, he appears on Kaioushin's planet.

Watching Goku battle Majin Buu in Super Saiya-jin Level 3 form, Vegeta finally admits that Goku is the number one fighter in the universe.

Then, an ingenious plan hits Vegeta as he watches. He comes up with the idea to revive all the non-evil people whom were killed after the Tenkachi Boudaki so they can donate energy to a massive Genki Dama. The halo floating above Vegeta's head dissappears in result to the wish, however, proving he's not as evil as most people thought.

Vegeta even goes as far as to stall Buu while Goku gathers the energy from all the good hearted people on Earth, as well as neighboring planets. Even though all he does is get kicked around, he still bought Goku enough time to build the Genki Dama. Buu is killed by the massive energy blast.

There's no doubt about it - Vegeta' black heart is finally gone, and he's a full-fledged hero. In my full opinion, watching Vegeta develop was one of the most interesting, not to mention beautiful, things about Dragon Ball Z.

Hands down, Vegeta takes the cake in the area of overall character improvement. I tip my hat to you, Toriyama, for putting together the Saiya-jin prince we know as Vegeta so cleverly and effectively.

Anyhow, 10 years pass and Vegeta's settled down a lot with Trunks and Bulma. He still trains just as hard, but not for the desire to kill. He joins the Tenkachi Boudakai at the end, eager to meet this new super-strong opponent Goku's been talking about (Ubuu..) and even forces Trunks to (there's just something humorous about hearing Vegeta threaten to take away Trunks' allowance...).

So, Dragon Ball Z comes to an end.

In Dragon Ball GT, Vegeta remains on Earth while Trunks, Goku, and Pan go off into space. Thus, he has no major part in the first half of the series. After action shifts back to Earth, he becomes the most powerful host body for Bebi and is once again Goku's enemy. Even after he reaches Golden Oozaru stage, Bebi Vegeta isn't strong enough to defeat Super Saiya-jin 4 Son Goku.

After the Bebi debacle, Vegeta begins to take on a more important role in the series, but never matches the prominence he had in Dragon Ball Z. He helps Son Goku fight Ii Shenlon and even suggests fusion into Gogeta; however, the fusion expires before Ii Shenlon is defeated. After Son Goku's supposed death, Vegeta takes the most brutal beating as the remaining Z Senshi take on Ii Shenlon. He is nearly killed before Goku reveals his giant Genki Dama and throws it at Ii Shenlon, finally winning the battle.
