Gohan is Surprised Too! Goten's Explosive Power

Dende and Popo watch as a glowing Piccolo hovers above God's Shrine, meditating. Two butterflies are flying nearby on either side of his head. In his lap, his hands are cupped with the tips of each finger meeting. They glow briefly, giving off a buzzing sound, then disappear, only to glow again seconds later. His eyes twitch, but remain closed. Dende, "It's an incredible ki! He's been that way since yesterday. He's afraid he's weak, but his ki is getting incredibly strong. It must be because Goku-san is going to the Tenkaichi Budokai.

At Kame House, Kuririn is yelling that "You don't have to get that serious!" as he attempts to dodge and block punches and kicks. On the other end is Juuhachigou. "It's still early in the morning! I haven't even warmed up yet!" Sparring on the beach continues as a crab ducks into a hole. "Don't talk back!" Kame House's door swings open and Muten Roshi steps out. "Can't you be quiet this early in the morning?" On one side of him, little Marron yawns, and on the other, Umigame just kind of sits there.

At Paozu-yama, Gohan and Goten both yell "Thanks!" They stand up from the kitchen table. "Let's go, Goten." Goten, "Yeah!" Gohan waves to Chichi, who's washing dishes, as he walks out. "Bye!" Goten follows suit. Chichi stops him. "Goten! Don't get in the way of your brother's training." Goten backs away. "Your brother has to win and get lots of award money. We have to fix the roof and that's expensive." Goten, "I won't get in the way." Chichi looks away. "Really? I hope not." Gohan yells back, "Goten! What are you doing? If you don't hurry, I'll leave you behind!" Goten, "Just a second!" He turns and runs out. "Be careful, you two!"

They run through the forest with Gohan in the lead. After emerging from the forest, they continue through an open area before stopping in a rocky place. Gohan looks back and realizes he's alone. "Goten, where are you?" He looks around. "Maybe I ran too fast." Suddenly, he hears laughing. "Hm?" Goten laughs. "That tickles! Stop!" He's sitting on the ground nearby while an animal licks his face. Gohan just stares. Goten waves to him. "Brother, this dinosaur became my friend!" The dinosaur licks his face again and Goten falls over. "I told you to stop that!" Gohan, "Mother always said that innocence was just like father..." Goten lies on his back, still playing with the dinosaur. "Hey! I'm going to start training now!" Gohan leaps into the air and vanishes.

"What?! Goku's going back to Earth? Did you give him permission to do that, Uranai Baba?" Baba, floating as always on her crystal ball, turns to Dai Kaiousama. "Of course. There was no reason not to." Dai Kaiou, "No reason not to!?" Nearby, Kaiousama watches with a smile as Son Goku trains, wearing weights on each of his arms and legs. Hovering in the sky, he throws kicks and punches at nothing. "I'm surprised with how strong you've gotten even without Dai Kaiousama's training. I'm looking forward to seeing how good you've gotten at the Tenkaichi Budokai on Earth." Uranai Baba turns to Dai Kaiousama. "How about training him now?" Dai Kaiousama is shocked and replies nervously, "I can't do that now, I have something important to do!" Uranai Baba closes her eyes and Dai Kaiou changes the subject. Rubbing his chin, he continues, "Well if Goku wants to go back on that day, it's fine with me." Goku continues training in the sky, ignoring the conversation below.

Super Saiya-jin Son Gohan stands with his back to a large rock wall several feet behind him, his eyes shut. The 'camera' gives us shots of the surrounding area, as if Gohan is mentally scanning his surroundings. Suddenly, his eyes open. Just as he prepares to do something, Goten's voice cries out. "Brother, isn't this cute!" He completely loses his concentration. "What is it now?" Goten runs out, carrying an insect in his hands. "Look, it's a bug." Goten opens his hands, showing the bug to Gohan. Skip ahead a few minutes, Gohan has finally regained his concentration after starting over. Just before he does something, "Brother, brother! Look, I found a lizard!" He almost falls over. On a ledge nearby, Gohan holds a small dinosaur over his head. "Goten, what are you doing? We didn't come here to play, we came here to train. Why don't you go somewhere and train or something?" Goten looks sad and slowly loosens his grip on the lizard. "If you keep bothering me, I can't train." The lizard slips away completely as Goten simply stares ahead sadly.

Gohan returns to his training. He concentrates, and finally opens his eyes. With a scream, he jumps forward, kicking. He attacks a tall stone pillar and cuts it in half with one swipe of his arm. He comes down on another from above, and smashes into a third one, causing it to crumble. He disappears and reappears. He screams, and... "Brother, brother!" He turns around. "What is it now?" Goten, "Brother, I caught a big dinosaur!" Goten rides on the tail of a giant green dinosaur, and on the other end is a confused dinosaur staring back at Goten. He roars and swings his tail around. He smashes it into some rocks and Goten falls off. The dinosaur walks away as Goten is left rubbing his head. Gohan runs up to him. "Are you alright, Goten?" Goten looks up at him. "Oops." Gohan, "What are you doing? That's dangerous." Goten stares up at him meekly. "Don't do anything, just sit there." Goten looks away. "Okay, brother..."

Gohan continues his training while Goten sits nearby, staring at the ground. After a while, Gohan stops and rubs his forehead. He looks over go Goten, still staring at the ground and looking sad as ever. "Goten!" He looks up, surprised. "Will you help me train?" Goten jumps up happily. "Yeah!" Jump ahead a few minutes, Gohan and Goten are dumping a bunch of rocks into a pile. Goten, "What are you going to do with all these rocks?" Gohan, "I'm going to rebuild my reflexes." Goten, "What's that?" Gohan, "You'll see." He walks to a nearby spot and drags his foot through the dirt, drawing a line. "Goten, you stand here and throw these rocks at me as hard as you can. Do it for real." Goten nods. "Okay!" Goten takes his place behind the line and picks up a rock. Gohan stands a few yards ahead of him. "Okay, I'm ready! Throw!" Goten, "What? This close?" Gohan, "It'd be okay if you were even closer. But let's start off like this." Goten, "Really? You won't get hurt?" Gohan, "It's okay, just throw it as hard as you can." Goten looks down at the rock in his hand. "Okay, here I go!" Gohan, "Alright, go!" Goten draws back his arm. "HERE I..." He throws. "GO!" The rock sails through the air and Gohan, shocked, narrowly manages to dodge it. It continues through the cliffside behind Gohan and out the other side. Gohan looks through the hole, then back at Goten, amazed. Goten, "You were right! That was great! You're great, brother!" Gohan's mouth hangs open in disbelief. Goten gathers up some more rocks. "Okay, I'm going to start going faster." Gohan waves his arms. "Wait, wait just a second, Goten!" He runs past Goten and draws a new line farther back. "I think you should start throwing from this line." Goten, "Okay, brother."

Goten throws several rocks in quick succession and Gohan jumps back and forth, dodging each one. Each rock crashes into the clifface behind Gohan. "Okay, I'm used to this! Come a little closer, Goten!" Goten takes a step up and continues throwing, never pausing. "Can't you go any faster than that?" Goten suddenly stops. "What's wrong, Goten?" Goten, "Hey, can I change like you, brother?" Gohan walks up to him. "What do you mean, like me?" Goten, "You know, change into a Super Saiya-jin." Gohan, "Huh?" He stands up, puts his hands on his hips, and laughs. "That's fine by me, but I don't think you can do it yet. You can only change into a Super Saiya-jin after a lot of training. It was only after I overcame a lot of hard training that I was --" Goten suddenly transforms into a Super Saiya-jin, shocking Gohan. His mouth drops open. Meanwhile, dust swirls around our youngest Super Saiya-jin as he simply stands there.

Goten stands there and his golden aura disappears. "Goten... Since when have you been able to do that?!" Goten pauses for a moment, then looks up at him. "I don't remember!" Gohan, "I don't believe this. Our dead father and I took a lot of hard work and training to do this." He straightens. "Do you want to spar with me? You know how to do that, don't you?" Goten's face lights up. "Yeah! When you were studying, Mom taught me a lot." Gohan, "Mom?" Goten nods. "Yeah!" Gohan, "Hm. Mom's changed a bit since Dad died. She said it was okay for me to quit school and train..." He turns back to Goten. "Does Mom know you can change into a Super Saiya-jin, Goten?" Goten nods and recalls a sparring match with Chichi.

Chichi charges forward, kicking and punching at a frightened Goten who simply does his best to dodge her attacks. "What's wrong, Goten? Can't you do any better than that?" She kicks and he dodges it. He jumps away and looks back at her. She kicks him, but then screams as his hair turns golden. He kicks her and she flies back, landing in front of a tree. Goten runs up to her. "Mom, I'm sorry!" She looks up at him and screams. "Gok... Gok..." Goten just stares at her. "Mom..." She screams and starts crying. "Goten's turned into a punk!" Goten looks around frantically at himself, confused. "I showed her once, but she got angry and said it makes me look like a bad kid, and that I'm not supposed to do it again." Gohan laughs. "Mom doesn't like Super Saiya-jin very much."

"I'm ready, Goten. Come get me!" With a scream, Super Saiya-jin Goten leaps into the air and begins attacking Gohan. Gohan blocks or dodges each hit Goten throws, but continues moving backward with Goten. Finally, they back into a cliffside and they jump up, continuing the fight. On one ledge, Goten throws a kick that destroys a small tree. To dodge, Gohan jumps to an adjacent ledge that collapses. The fight continues on up and they finally reach the top. Goten throws a punch, but Gohan throws up his arms to block it. Goten pushes him up to the edge and he jumps into the air. Goten yells at him. "Hey! That's not fair!" Gohan stops and turns around. "Hm?" Goten, "It's no fair flying in the sky like that!" Gohan, "How come?" Goten, "Because it's unfair!" Gohan, "Huh? You can't fly even though you can change into a Super Saiya-jin?" Goten, "I can't fly!" Gohan's reply is just...completely screwed up. I mean, fansubs aren't known for incredible grammar, but I can't even make sense out of this. It's subtitled, "That make a lie out of order," so I guess he's commenting on how odd it is that Goten can become a Super Saiya-jin, but can't use a relatively simple technique like buku jutsu. I guess we'll find out when this episode comes out on DVD. Anyway... "If you're going to fly, teach me how to, too!" Gohan, "Okay, okay, don't get angry. I'll teach you how to fly." Goten, "Really?" Gohan, "Yeah!" Goten starts jumping around happily and Gohan laughs.

Suddenly, he hears an engine and looks to see a plane in the distance. "That... It can't be..." The plane is, on closer inspection, Videl's. "Videl-san." She comes in to land. "That's right, I promised Videl-san I'd teach her how to fly, too." He lands. Goten, "Brother, what's wrong?" Gohan, "It looks like you've got a new friend." Goten, "A new friend?" Gohan, "A girl from the same high school I go to is coming here. But you shouldn't show her how strong you really are, and you especially shouldn't change into Super Saiya-jin." Goten, "Because she'll think I'm a bad kid." Gohan, "Hm? Oh, yeah, something like that."

No longer Super Saiya-jin, they both run back to the house to meet Videl. Goten, "You're great, brother! I wasn't able to hit you once." Gohan, "You have martial arts potential yourself, Goten. You really surprised me! I didn't know you were that good. If you train hard, you might be able to go to the Tenkaichi Budokai yourself." Goten, "Really? But Trunks-kun is even stronger than me. We play-fight a lot." Gohan, "Really? Is that how you play around?" Goten, "Yeah, it's fun." Gohan, "These little kids are going to surpass me if I'm not careful."

Chichi stands in the front door, talking to Videl. "Tell me the truth. You really came here to ask Gohan-chan on a date, didn't you?" Videl, "I told you, that's not it." Gohan and Goten emerge from the woods. Gohan, "Yo!" Videl looks back. "Hm?" Goten runs past her. "We're home, Mom!" Chichi, "Welcome home." Gohan walks up to Videl. "Videl-san, I'm glad you found this place." Videl, "It was easy to find after I looked at the name board." Gohan, "I see." Videl, "But how dare you skip school like that! You promised you'd teach me how to fly." Gohan, "Of course I'll teach you." Chichi cuts in. "Gohan-chan, is it true this girl's going to the Tenkaichi Budokai?" Gohan, "Yes, Mom. I'm going to the Tenkaichi Budokai because of her." Videl looks away from Chichi, and though still obviously unhappy, Chichi concedes. "If that's it, I guess it's okay. Don't you flirt with Gohan-chan to show your thanks." Gohan looks back and forth from Chichi to Videl nervously, and Videl gets really angry. She turns to Chichi. "There's no way I would do that!!" Chichi's expression suddenly softens and she screams. Gohan, "Huh?" Chichi lunges forward, pointing at Videl. "Ah! I know what you're up to! You're hoping to get lucky at the Tenkaichi Budokai and trick Gohan-chan into marrying you!" Videl strikes back, getting right up into Chichi's face. "I'm not planning that! Why would I want to get married at the Tenkaichi Budokai?!" Goten speaks up from nearby. "Because Mom and Dad got married at the Tenkaichi Budokai." Everyone just kind of...stops. All eyes are on Goten, except Videl who keeps looking back and forth from him to Chichi. Chichi's hands go to her face. "Oh Goten-chan, you've embarassed me! She looks away." Videl, "What a strange person..."

Chichi's completely off in her own little world now. "Goku-san was so handsome fighting at that Tenkaichi Budokai." In a still image, Chichi prepares to face off against Goku at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. "And then we got married..." Another still; still in their wedding clothes, Goku and Chichi ride around in a red convertible. Goku eats while Chichi works in the background. Chichi's eyes are closed. "These are such good memories." Her eyes open and she gets angry again. "But that's different! Don't do anything like that to Gohan-chan!" Videl, "I told you I wouldn't do anything like that! How can you say anything so stupid?!" They go back and forth, making faces at each other while Gohan and Goten watch. Gohan closes his eyes and laughs. "It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to train in peace for a while." Goten stands near the door, his arms crossed behind his head, laughing. "But Goten's really powerful... I can't sit back now."
