Ah! I Flew!! Videl Learns How to Fly

"Okay, I'm going to teach you two the buku jutsu; in other words, how to fly." Goten smiles up at Gohan. "It's just a matter of ki control, so it's not hard." Videl glares at him. When Gohan notices her glare, he's taken aback, but he continues on anyway. "However, learning to fly at higher speeds is much harder." Videl, "Ki control? What's ki?" Gohan, "Huh? Oh, I see. You call it something else." He thinks for a moment how to explain it to her, then says, "It's the hidden energy or power inside your body." Videl, "Huh? What hidden power?" Goten smiles up at her and Gohan rubs his head. "Hm, what's the best way to explain it...?" Videl's angry expression remains. Goten holds out his arm. "It's this." Videl, "Huh?" Goten throws a small ki blast, causing an explosion a few yards away. A few rocks land near Videl's feet and Gohan turns back to her. "That's right. It's that kind of power." Videl stares at him, wide-eyed. "I see..." Gohan, "What do you call it? This kind of power?" Videl thinks for a moment, then regains her serious expression. "A trick." Gohan, "Trick? It's not a trick at all. You don't need anything to do it." Videl gets angry. "Why didn't you say this from the beginning!? I don't know anything about this kind of magic!" Gohan, "Huh? You don't know anything about it?" He scratches his chin. "Now what am I going to do?" She walks up to him. "You mean if you don't have any ki, you can't fly?" Gohan leans away from her. "It's okay, everyone has ki. It's just a matter of controlling it." Videl, "Really?" Gohan, "Really." He looks back to Goten. "Goten, can you wait a while? I have to teach Videl-san how to use her ki. I'll teach you later." Goten looks off into the sky. "Isn't it going to be impossible? She doesn't even know what ki is." Videl, "I'll learn." Gohan waves him off. "Go somewhere and play." Goten jumps away. "Okay, I'll go play. Hurry and teach her." Gohan, "Yeah."

Videl sits in the grass, her knees facing forward and her feet behind her. Her hands are folded in her lap. Gohan sits cross-legged across from her with his hands cupped in front of him. "Okay, be quiet and relax." He holds his hands up, staring at them. "Now slowly draw forth your inner power." Gohan concentrates and eventually, there's a strange sound. Videl's eyes are glued to his hands. Soon after the sound, almost like a buzzing, begins, a small ball of light appears. Videl falls forward on her hands, completely entranced. Gohan holds it up. "See?" Videl stares at it with awe, her face almost in his hands. He leans back a little and they both sit there for a moment in silence. Finally, Gohan stands up and lets his ki disappear. He puts his hands on his hips. "Now you try." Videl sits back and holds her hands up. She looks back and forth at each one. "Let's see..." She sits there, not doing anything for several seconds. Gohan finally speaks up. "Relax and quiet down." She looks up at him, then cups her hands and looks back down at them. Her expression gets serious and almost frustrated and her hands shake a little. Her breathing becomes a little more rapid. Gohan, "Hm?" She keeps trying to force it. "No, not with your strength. First you have to relax, or you can't bring forth your ki. You have to concentrate." She looks up at him hopelessly. Overhead, clouds drift by lazily.

Gohan, "Thanks!" Goten, "Thanks!" Goten shovels food into his mouth at an alarming rate. The four of them sit outside the Son home. Videl, "Thank you very much for lunch." Chichi, "I didn't have a choice. I couldn't feed everyone but you." Everyone eats in silence until Videl proclaims that "This is excellent! It's much better than what my chef makes." Chichi suddenly looks up. "Chef?" She looks at Videl. "What? Does your family own a restaurant?" Videl, "No, we have a chef that works for us at my house." Chichi leans across the table. "You have a personal chef!? Are you rich?" She leans further across. "How many rooms does your house have?! Ten? Twenty?" Videl looks off as she thinks. "Hm... Let me see... About fifty, I think." Chichi, "FIFTY!? You're super rich!" The whole time, Goten continues eating as if nothing is going on. Videl, "This is delicious." Chichi suddenly turns to Gohan. "When are you two going to get married?!" Gohan suddenly spits all his food out and everything else just stops. After a second, Goten, now covered in his brother's lunch, asks, "Are brother and Videl-san going to get married?" Gohan, "No! No we're not!" Videl just stares.

Out in the field, Goten swings a butterfly net around, trying to catch a frog. His net comes down, but the frog is just outside. The frog leaps into the air, landing on Goten's head, and continues on. He spins around, chasing it. Nearby, Gohan and Videl are giving ki another try. Gohan sits in the grass with his arms and legs crossed. Across from him, Videl is once again sitting on her legs. She stares intently at her hands. There's some very faint glowing. "That's right, that's perfect." A little ball of light flickers in between her hands. Her face lights up (literally and figuratively) as she manages to bring forth her ki and sustain it between her hands. "You did it! Great! Since you're a martial artist, it looks like you have a knack for this, Videl-san." She simply stares at the ki ball in her hand. Finally, it fades away and she collapses, breathing heavily. Gohan looks down at her, confused. She turns back to him, grinning. She jumps up. "Can I fly now?" Gohan, "No, not yet. Not until you have free control over your ki." Videl's happiness turns to annoyance and Gohan laughs nervously.

Son Goku throws kicks and punches in the sky, his arms and legs weighted down by large red...weights. Kaiousama watches, smiling. "Hmph. What an ancient training technique." Kaiousama looks back. "Ah, it's the Southern Kaiou. It's been a while." Southern Kaiou, "Wasn't it Son Goku at the Anoyo-ichi Budokai a few years ago?" A giant (and I stress "giant") blue man walks up behind the Southern Kaiou. "He got close then. Hasn't he been trained by Dai Kaiousama yet?" Kaiousama, "Dai Kaiousama says he's busy. It'll happen some day." Oblivious to the happenings below, Goku continues training in the sky. "How much do his weights weigh?" Kaiousama, "They're not too much. Only two tons each." Southern Kaiou, "Two...two tons?!" The blue man is silent. Kaiousama smiles and turns back to Goku. "It looks like that surprised you." Southern Kaiou, "Don't be stupid. You can't surprise me." He turns back to the blue man. "This is Papoi. He just arrived here. He's the strongest warrior in my galaxy." Papoi strikes a few poses. "He's incredibly strong. It's too bad he wasn't here for the Anoyo-ichi Budokai. He would have won." Kaiousama turns back to the Southern Kaiou. "Oh! Tell you what, in my northern galaxy, there's a planet called Earth. They're holding a Tenkaichi Budokai there. Why doesn't Papoi, who you're so confident in, join too?" Southern Kaiou takes a few steps forward, smiling up at Papoi. "Fine with me." Papoi continues his posing. Southern Kaiou turns around. "Papoi's sure to win!"

"Hey, Goku! I'm going to incresase the size of your weights!" Goku stops. "Huh? Okay. How heavy are you going to make them?" Kaiousama, "How about ten tons each?" Southern Kaiou, "Ten tons?! You're lying!" Papoi simply stares up at Goku. "Ten tons? That's too much. I won't be able to move." Southern Kaiou laughs. "That's right. No matter how good he is, that's impossible. You still like those stupid jokes, don't you?" Both he and Papoi laugh. "Goku, you can change into a Super Saiya-jin." Southern Kaiou and Papoi stop laughing. "Oh, then that's no problem!" Southern Kaiou, "What?!" Kaiousama turns around. "Hey, Southern Kaiou, do you want to do the honors?" Southern Kaiou, "I'm going to change them to ten tons each! That's going to be forty tons total! I'm really going to do it! That's okay, right?" Goku, "Yeah." Southern Kaiou just kind of freezes, having expected Goku and Kaiousama to admit that they were bluffing. Goku laughs. "I'm really going to do it!" Kaiousama, "Go ahead and do it." Southern Kaiou, "Don't blame me if you get hurt." He twists his arm around, then is overcome by a pink flash of light that expands out. Suddenly, Goku is dragged straight down. After hitting the ground, he looks up, his arms and legs anchored down. He turns Super Saiya-jin and easily raises his arms up. Kaiousama smiles. Goku goes back to his training as a Super Saiya-jin wearing 40 tons. Southern Kaiou and Papoi are both shocked. Kaiousama looks back at them, smiling. "The Earth's Tenkaichi Budokai is going to be in 28 days, their time. Papoi can enter too." Papoi is still staring in amazement at Son Goku; his mouth is hanging open, and rather than coherent words, he's just kind of grunting out random sounds. "Now that I've thought about it, Papoi doesn't like silly games like that." Papoi nods, his eyes still glued to Son Goku. As they walk off, Southern Kaiou says, "Let's take our time to think about it. This is just a foolish waste of your time." Kaiousama grins.

"Now it's time to learn how to fly. Control your ki like... I... told..." He stops when he notices Goten jumping up and down, trying to fly. Gohan watches him, not quite sure what to think. "Not with your legs. Float on your ki." Goten stops and smiles at him. "Concentrate your ki." Goten stops and concentrates. Videl and Gohan watch silently. Goten continues to concentrate. The wind blows, but otherwise, everything is silent. He slowly begins to lift into the air. "Like this?" He keeps losing his "balance," though he never actually falls. "You're doing great!" He slowly and clumsily flies foward. "I did it!" Videl watches with envy and surprise. "You're doing fine, Goten." Videl's hand shakes with frustration. "Goten, don't push yourself too hard." Goten looks back at him. "Don't worry, brother!" And then he suddenly screams and falls to the ground. "Goten!" Gohan runs to him. "Goten! Goten, that's why I told you not to push yourself too hard." Goten lies on the ground, sitting up and supporting himself on his hands. He stares off, dazed. "Don't worry, you'll be able to fly freely soon enough." Goten looks back at him. "But what about your training?" Gohan leans in close and whispers, "As soon as Videl-san goes home, we'll be able to train as hard as we want." Goten jumps up, happy once again. "Yeah!"

And Videl watches angrily from nearby. "Gohan-kun! Have you forgotten me?" Gohan jumps up. "Yes, here I come." He runs over to her. "It's getting late. Won't your father be upset?" Videl, "That's okay. Learning to fly is more important." Gohan, "Okay, let's continue. Okay, ignore your physical strength more and concentrate your ki." Videl stares ahead intently, concentrating. A light breeze begins to blow her hair and clothes around. Gohan watches as she concentrates. "That's it, you're doing it." Her feet slowly lift into the air and Videl levitates over the grass. "You did it! You're floating, you're doing it!" Videl, "Be quiet. I can't concentrate." Gohan covers his mouth. She levitates for a few more seconds, then sets down in the grass. Gohan uncovers his mouth when he senses that it's safe. "That's incredible! You were able to do that in just a day!" Videl, "You think so?" She looks up at Goten, who's flying circles nearby and screaming "I did it! Brother, look!" She stares at him and Gohan gets really nervous, searching for an explanation. He waves his hands as he tells her, "Goten already knew how to control his ki. You've already gotten the hard part done. After that, the rest is no problem. You can learn the rest of what it takes to fly by yourself." She turns to him and he abruptly stops talking. "I will be back tomorrow." Gohan, "Why? You've gotten the hard part down. You should be able to learn the rest yourself." Videl turns around. "I want to learn more about ki." She looks back over her shoulder at him. "Or am I getting in the way here?" Gohan, "Of course not." She looks ahead again. "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow." She throws her capsule plane. "Bye." Gohan waves to her weakly. "Bye..." As she climbs into her plane, he stops her. "Oh, that reminds me." She turns around. "What?" Gohan, "It's about your hair." Videl, "Huh?" Gohan, "I think you should cut your hair short." She holds her hair in her hands, examining it. "Do you like short hair, Gohan-kun? Is that your type?" Gohan is taken aback. "Uh, it doesn't matter what I like... Short hair is better for competitions. You see, if it's long, it's easier to grab and could get in your eyes." She lets go of her hair, suddenly angry. "Gohan-kun! How dare you! Leave me alone!! It's my hair!" Gohan watches, stunned, as she lifts off. Goten lands next to his brother, watching as she leaves. "Brother, why did she get angry?" Gohan, "I don't know... But even so... I can't train!"

Vegeta's cries ring out at Capsule Corporation. Chibi Trunks struggles to walk around inside a gravity chamber while Super Saiya-jin Vegeta jumps around back and forth, throwing kicks and punches. Barely able to stand, Trunks slowly walks around the room. Vegeta stops. "You can't do this. You should leave the room. You can't stand the 150 gravities in this room." Trunks, "Last night, I got a phone call from Goten. He's going to the Tenkaichi Budokai. So I want to go, too." Vegeta grins. "It's just like a festival." Trunks stops, breathing heavily. "I can't do it like this. I'll have to change into a Super Saiya-jin." Vegeta suddenly stops. "Hm?" Trunks turns Super Saiya-jin and easily begins moving around the room. "What?!" Vegeta's completely shocked. He stares in amazement as Trunks runs around the room. "This is easy!" Vegeta, "Since when has he been able to do that...?" Trunks flips around the gravity chamber. "This isn't funny... There's too much of what was once called a legendary warrior." And Trunks continues his flipping. "Trunks." He stops. "Yeah." Vegeta, "Can Son Gohan's brother turn into a Super Saiya-jin as well?" Trunks nods. "Yes." Vegeta says to himself, "This is like a Super Saiya-jin bargain sale..." Trunks smiles at his dad. Vegeta, "Come get me." Trunks, "That's impossible for me. You're too strong." Vegeta, "Hurry and attack me. If you hit me on the face even once, I'll take you to the amusement park." Trunks, "Really? You will, Dad?" He jumps back. "Alright!" He charges his ki. "Attack me as hard as you can! Got it?" Trunks, "Here I go!" He jumps forward and begins throwing punch after punch, but Vegeta manages to dodge them. He finally lands one and instinctively, Vegeta hits him back, throwing Trunks around the room. Even as Vegeta's countering, he reacts as a look of worry washes over his face. His arm is frozen and he just stares at Trunks, who sits back up. He grabs his face. "That's no fair... You said you wouldn't counterattack..." Vegeta, "Don't be foolish, I never said that." Trunks begins to cry. "But... But..." Vegeta, "Don't cry. I'll take you to the amusement park." Trunks grins. "So tell me, who's stronger? You or Son Gohan's brother?" Trunks, "I'm just a little stronger. I'm a year older and he can't fly." Vegeta, "Just a little, huh? What's going on here?"

"We'll have to train fast before she comes to bother us." Gohan and Goten run through a field. Goten, "Yeah!" Suddenly, an engine is heard overhead. Videl's plane passes right over them, just a few feet above their heads. They both duck. She lands a few yards ahead. "That was dangerous..." The Son brothers run up to greet her, and Videl jumps out. Goten cocks his head. "Huh?" Gohan stares at her in surprise and confusion, his mouth hanging open. Goten, "Brother, who's that person?" Videl stops and we finally see that she's cut most of her hair off. "Let's continue from where we left off yesterday." Gohan, "Vi...Videl-san..." He holds his hands up. "I don't understand girls at all..."
