Welcome Back, Goku! The Whole Z Team is Gathered!!
Videl slowly rises into the air. "Look! I've gotten pretty good at floating." Gohan watches from the ground below. "That's good, that's good. Perfect." Videl laughs. "You don't need me to teach you anymore." Goten suddenly zips by behind Videl. Both Gohan and Videl turn to watch Gohan speeding through the sky as if he's always known how to fly. He laughs cheerfully as he flies back and forth. "How long is it going to take before I can fly like that?" Gohan rubs the back of his head. "Well, I don't know..." Videl turns back to Gohan. "I'm going to keep coming here until I can fly that well." Gohan, "Huh?" He thinks for a moment. "Wait a second."
"Brother, look, look!" Goten flies through the air, rolling and flying loops. Gohan flies up in front of him and he stops. He whispers in Goten's ear, "Goten, don't fly any faster while Videl-san is here." Goten, "Huh? How come?" Gohan, "It doesn't matter why." He drops back to the ground. "What was that?" Gohan, "Uh, I was giving him some advice." Videl finally lands and wipes her forehead. "I need a break." She sits down. "Don't tell my Papa I'm learning how to fly. I want to surprise him at the Tenkaichi Budokai." Gohan, "That's right. That might be best." Videl, "And if he found out I was coming to a boy's house, he'd be angry. He's overprotective." Mr. Satan, "You can't go out with a boy unless he's stronger than me. Do you understand, Videl?" She looks at the ground. "There's no way there could be any boy like that. After all, he's the world champion." She looks back up at Gohan. "You're pretty good, Gohan-kun. But I still don't think you could beat Papa." Gohan laughs nervously. "Do you ever spar with your father?" Videl, "I couldn't do that! He's the champion. I haven't even watched him lately. I've learned everything myself." Gohan smiles. "Thought so. That's why Videl-san hasn't realized that she's stronger than Mr. Satan." They sit in silence while Gohan has his little thought there, then he breaks it by asking, "Would you do it if someone did beat your father? Would that be much of a shock to you?" Videl suddenly gets serious. "Of course not. He's really gotten on my nerves lately. Even though Mama's gone, he doesn't have to act like a playboy. He abuses his position as champion to mess around with a lot of women. I'd really like someone to knock him down a peg." Gohan smiles. "Okay, okay! Videl-san won't be hurt if I beat Mr. Satan." Videl stands up. "Okay, let's continue."
She begins stretching. "Gohan-kun, who did you learn martial arts from?" He comes back out of his little world. "Oh, from people I know and my dead father." She continues stretching. "Was your father pretty strong?" Gohan, "He was incredibly strong." Goten drops out of the sky next to his brother. "Dad's coming back for a single day to go to the Tenkaichi Budokai." Videl, "Huh? What do you mean, he's coming back? Isn't he dead?" Gohan (to Goten only, obviously), "You idiot, Goten! I told you not to say that!" Goten covers his mouth. Videl, "Oh, I know! Your father left a long time ago, but he secretly contacted you to tell you he's coming to the Tenkaichi Budokai. That's right, isn't it?" Gohan, "Uh..." Videl, "We've both gotten a hard time from our fathers." Gohan and Goten just stare at her. Videl, "Forget about that. Let's train."
Night has fallen at the Satan home. "Hey! Where's Videl?" Servant, "She still hasn't returned." Satan paces back and forth. "What's she doing so late every day?"
And several days passed.
Goten continues flying around randomly, just enjoying his new ability, when suddenly he stops as he almost collides with Videl. She races past and continues on. "This is dangerous!" She laughs. Gohan watches from the ground, his arms crossed. "I knew Videl-san was pretty strong. She's gained a lot of control in only ten days." Goten, now standing next to his brother, waves. Videl lands in front of them. "You're getting pretty good." He uncrosses his arms. "There's nothing left for me to teach you." Videl, "Thank you, Gohan-kun. Now I can go back to real training for the Tenkaichi Budokai." Gohan, "Yeah, me too." Videl turns around. "I should go home. I can fly home by myself now." She lifts into the air, but just a foot or two off the ground. "See you at the Tenkaichi Budokai. Bye!" She flies away as Gohan and Goten wave. From both of them (Gohan first, then Goten), "Bye!" As she disappears, Goten says, "She's finally gone." Gohan lowers his arm. "Yeah. Now we can start training. We've got to make up for lost time." Goten nods. "Yeah!" Gohan starts running. "Come with me, Goten!" He jumps into the air and Goten follows.
At last, the day for the Tenkaichi Budokai has come. The various fighters capped off their training in their own ways. Vegeta. Vegeta throws punches with incredible speed in his gravity room while Trunks does push-ups on his fingers. "9,993. 9,994. 9,995. 9,996." Vegeta stops and looks over at his son.
Piccolo, too. Our favorite Demon Junior mediates outside at God's Shrine. He's suddenly bathed in light and our attention is drawn to his closed hands. The glowing Piccolo slowly raises into the air. Popo and Dende run out, surprised. The glowing fades away and Piccolo slowly lands.
Kuririn. Kuririn jumps around, throwing punches and kicks. He stops for a moment. "Being married sure takes a lot out of me. I'm under a lot of pressure." And with a scream, he resumes his training.
Videl fights with a punching bag while a group of guys watches. "Wow. Videl-san..." Another, "She's a lot stronger than she was before." Finally, after a few more seconds, she stops. She sighs and grabs a towel, wiping her face. As she leaves the room, the punching back tears in half, shocking everyone who was watching her. She stops. "Get me a new one, okay?" And continues out of the room as one of the men agrees to do so. Mr. Satan reclines, reading a magazine. "Papa." Satan, "Oh, Videl." Videl, "Don't you have to train?" Satan, "Of course I don't. I'm sure to win. It'll be easy." He laughs.
Son Gohan and Goten clash in the sky and go into one of those hit/kick frenzies. Gohan goes on the offensive and Goten falls back. Gohan backs him into a wall and Goten holds for a moment before turning Super Saiya-jin and going on the offensive himself. Gohan does his best to block or dodge each hit before jumping back and turning Super Saiya-jin himself. Goten charges forward and they begin again. At one point, they give off so much energy that the entire area is bathed in blinding light. Finally, Goten collapses, heaving. "It's no good." Super Saiya-jin Gohan lands nearby. "I can't stand up to you, Brother." Gohan, no longer a Super Saiya-jin, "It's only because I've trained longer than you, Goten." He sits down in the grass. "But you're doing pretty well." Goten, "Are you sure Dad's coming to the Tenkaichi Budokai?" Gohan, "This will be your first time meeting Dad." He lays back. "I'll bet you're looking forward to it." Goten, "Yeah."
Uranai Baba flies through the afterlife atop her crystal ball. She stops next to Kaiousama. "Where is Goku? It's almost time for the Tenkaichi Budokai on Earth to begin." Kaiousama stares straight ahead at a mountain not far off. "Goku's over there. He's completed all of his training and is preparing himself mentally." Uranai Baba floats ahead a few feet and we zoom in on the mountain. At the very top, Son Goku sits with his arms and legs crossed and his eyes shut.

A capsule plane flies through the clouds. Inside, Bulma pilots. Vegeta sits next to her. She looks back to the people behind her. "Hey, is Son-kun really coming?" Behind her, Son Gohan is wearing everything for his Great Saiyaman disguise except the helmet (or bandanna now). "Yeah, he's coming." Muten Roshi sits next to him. "I haven't seen Goku in a while. I'm looking forward to this." Gohan turns to Kuririn, who's sitting on his other side. "Kuririn-san, Dad won't recognize you with all that hair." Kuririn laughs and rubs the back of his head. "Probably not." Gyuu Mao pops up behind Chichi and Yamucha, laughing. "This really looks fun. I'm glad everyone is so happy." He rocks from side to side on his feet. Chichi, "Aren't you entering, Yamucha-san?" Yamucha, "Why should I? I'd only be embarassed if I entered."
Gohan faces forward again. "By the way Vegeta-san, and this goes for you too, Goten and Trunks-kun; let's not use Super Saiya-jin at the competition." Vegeta, "Why not?" Bulma turns to him. "Don't you know? Someone might remember the footage of the Cell fight and wonder where he's seen you before." She faces ahead again. "And if you go Super Saiya-jin, people might say, 'Oh, that's the group from the Cell Game!'" Gohan nods. "it'd be bothersome if that happened. TV crews and stuff would bother us." Vegeta, "Why not kill anyone who bothers us?" Gohan, "We can't do that..." Vegeta, "Okay, as long as no one else uses Super Saiya-jin, the fights will be the same. I'll still win." Trunks, "We think so too." Goten, sitting beside him, nods his agreement. Gohan, "Okay. Thanks, everyone." Kuririn, "That'll help me out. Stuff like that should be against the rules anyway." He laughs.
An island comes into view and Bulma leans forward. "There it is! The Tenkaichi Budokai is on that island." A whole swarm of planes fills the sky above the island. Kuririn, "Here it is." Gohan begins digging through a bag. "I have to get into costume." Juuhachigou and Marron just stare at him. Kuririn, "Uh, Gohan, are you going to fight like that?" Gohan has his sunglasses on and is tying the bandanna behind his head. "Yeah. I don't want the people at school to know it's me." He finishes tying. "Don't you think it's pretty cool?" Kuririn, "Uh, yeah..." The plane approaches the island.
The Z Senshi wander around on the island, looking around. Kuririn, "There are a lot of people." Bulma, "You're right. This is kind of loud." Yamucha, "I wonder if Goku's already here." Loud cheering suddenly catches their attention and everyone turns to the source. "What's that?" A bunch of people run by. "It's Mr. Satan!!" Kuririn, "It's just Mr. Satan." He laughs. "The hero who saved the world has made his appearance." Bulma, "He's really popular. For being what he is..." Yamucha smiles. "It's because the people don't know what really happened." Gohan, "That's Videl-san's father."
A large crowd has gathered as the door opens on Mr. Satan's plane. He steps out and the sound rises just a bit more. He throws his arms in the air and yells, and the crowd begins screaming. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Satan fans of the world!" A reporter walks up to him. "Mr. Satan, what do you think of this competition?" Satan laughs, his arms crossed. "To tell you the truth, I think I have a 120% chance of winning!" Another reporter, "It looks like your daughter's going to enter this year, too." He turns from Satan to Videl, who's standing beside her father. "Is there some special reason you cut your hair?" She crosses her arms. "Shut up and leave me alone." Satan laughs. "This is mine!"
Yamucha laughs. "That old man never changes." Gohan, "Don't let it bother you." He looks around. "Is Dad here yet?" Muten Roshi, "I haven't seen him yet." Goten looks around and sees a familiar face nearby. "Brother, it's Piccolo-san." Gohan, "You're right." He walks up to Piccolo, whose arms are crossed and eyes are closed (this seems to be a popular pose among DBZ characters). "Piccolo-san, have you seen Dad?" Piccolo, "Gohan. No, I haven't seen him. Are you going to fight like that?" Gohan, "Of course!" Chichi looks around. "Where's Goku-san? Has he already gone to the fighter's changing room?" Kuririn, "I'll go check it out." Yamucha, "Yeah, me too."
Suddenly, something materializes behind them. Everyone turns around. Son Goku smiles. Gohan, "Dad!" Piccolo, "Son." Kuririn, "Hey!" Goku, "You've all changed a lot. But how have you been?" Gohan smiles. Chichi, "Go...Goku-san!" Piccolo grins, and Goten just stares up at Goku. Muten Roshi, "I'm glad you came back." Bulma, "Son-kun!" Yamucha's speechless. Vegeta, Trunks, and Juuhachigou just watch in silence. Oolong, "Goku!" Yamucha, Gohan, Oolong, and Kuririn all run up and hug him as one last "Goku!" is shouted. Chichi, "Goku-san! I've waited for you!" Goku, "Me too." He pauses. "Hm?" He looks down and sees Goten hiding behind Chichi. When Goku looks down at him, Goten shrinks back behind Chichi. Chichi looks back at him. "Goten, that's your dad." Goku cries out in surprise. "I thought he looked like me! Is he my son?" Goten comes back out, peering around his mother's leg. "Daddy?" Goku nudges Kuririn and Oolong out of the way and steps forward. He smiles and the two of them just look at each other for several seconds. Finally, Goten runs out from behind his mom. "Daddy!" He runs into his dad's waiting arms, and Goku holds him up on his shoulder. "You look good. Strong, like me." He laughs. Everyone watches as Goku plays with Goten, holding him up and bouncing him around. Uranai Baba steps (well, floats) forward. "Goku!" Goku abruptly stops. "Hm?" He looks down at her. "Just one more reminder. You only have twenty four hours." Goku nods. "I understand." Uranai Baba, "Bye." She flies away. "Thanks, Uranai Baba!" Piccolo, "Hey, if we don't sign up for the Tenkaichi Budokai soon, we'll be too late."
"Great... Great..." Gohan, "Great Saiyaman." He's at the sign up booth with Goku, Goten, and Trunks. Man, "Great Saiyaman?" Gohan, "That's right." Goku, "Why are you doing that?" Gohan turns around. "Aren't the name and costume really cool?" Goku rubs the back of his head and laughs. "Yeah." The other man writes Gohan's entry down. "Okay. Next." Trunks steps up. "You're going into the youth division, aren't you?" Trunks, "What? The youth division?" Man, "Everyone under fifteen goes into the youth division." Trunks turns around. "Hey Goten, they won't let us fight the adults." Goten, "Really?" Bulma, "Do you have those kinds of rules now? That's not right." Trunks, "I don't care about that! I want to fight the adults." Man, "I can't let you do that. It's against the rules, so it's right out." Trunks, "That's boring." Kuririn smiles.
A man yells into a megaphone, "Everyone who wants to fight, please come to the changing rooms!" Chichi, "Do your best Goku-san, Gohan, Goten! Bring me back lots of prize money!" Goku, "Right!" He stretches his arm. "I finally get to fight for real." Gohan, "It looks like he's gotten a lot stronger. I need to see this." Trunks warns Goten, "I'm not going to hold back." Goten, "Me neither." Kuririn rubs Marron on the head. "Daddy's going to fight, so be a good girl." And Juuhachigou remains silent, as always. Vegeta turns around, throwing a back over his shoulder. "Hmph." Goten waves. "Bye!" Chichi waves back. "Don't hurt anyone!" Oolong, "Do your best!" And the two groups part ways.
