Hidden Strength!! When Gohan Was a Baby

Kuririn, Son Goku, and Son Gohan sit around the kitchen table while Chichi works at the sink. Kuririn, "Yajirobe said at that time, 'Sorry. I...respect you. Can we be friends?'" As he speaks, he waves his hands around and smiles. When he finishes, Goku and Gohan laugh. Gohan raises a glass, but it shatters in his hands. Everyone stops laughing abruptly and looks over at Gohan. Goku, "Gohan, no. Follow me. You must have full control over your power." Just as he finishes speaking, his glass shatters. Chichi, "No! This time..." The house shakes and pots and pans fall from their hooks on the ceiling. The house is shown from several angles outside. It shakes; screams come from inside. When the shaking ceases, the view goes back into the house. Kuririn, Goku, and Gohan sit around what used to be a table, but is now just a pile of wood. Dust settles. They stare at it in silence. Chichi suddenly erupts out of the pile of wood, screaming. Pots are thrown back when she jumps up. "No kidding! I don't care if it's for fighting Cell or not! When we eat, I don't want you to be Super Saiya-jin!" Kuririn slowly backs away. "Otherwise, all the dishes and the whole house will be broken! This afternoon, we'll have Gohan-chan's birthday party. What should we do?" Goku, "Birthday party?" Gohan, "But Mother, today is not my birthday." Chichi leans forward over him. "I know, but you know? Gohan-chan, when you were in the Room of Spirit and Time, you passed your 11th birthday. Birthday is important, so we have to celebrate it today." She walks over to the door and throws it open. "Goku-san, you'll go." Goku, "Go? Where?" Chichi, "I have to prepare for the party. I can't let you damage the house again." She looks back at him. "So you'll go catch a big fish to be cooked for the party." Goku, "I see. Then I'll go." Kuririn, "Me too." Gohan, "Father, me too." Chichi, "Gohan-chan has to stay home to study." Everyone looks back to her. "Before the party begins, you have to study hard. You're one year behind the other kids." Gohan, "Today is birthday..." Chichi, "Studying has nothing to do with birthday." Gohan, "But..." Goku puts his hand on Gohan's shoulder. "Gohan, listen to your mom. Stay home to study." Gohan and Kuririn gasp in shock. The entire house jumps into the air and thrashes about like a fish out of water. Chichi falls on her back. Goku just looks around, not quite sure what happened. "Hmm? Hmm? What?" Kuririn stands up. "Goku!" Gohan in front of him, "Father!" Chichi in front of Gohan, "Goku-san..." She throws a thermometer into his mouth and feels his forehead. "The temperature is normal." Goku, "Hmm?"

Chichi moves about the kitchen, preparing food for the party. She looks up from her work for a moment. "He's so diligent. It looks like he's working really hard on his studies. But what's wrong with Goku-san? He's never asked Gohan-chan to study before. I have a funny feeling." She looks over at a flower in the window. "I hope nothing goes wrong."

Clothing is shed. Goku cries out gleefully and chases down a big fish in the river. It swims away, off and over a waterfall. Goku jumps out after it. He catches it by the tail and rides it down the waterfall. They land in the water below with a big splash. Kuririn watches from the edge of the river. He laughs as the wave of water washes over him. "Goku is still like a kid, running around like that." Goku and his fish surface again. "Hey, Kuririn!" Goku jumps out of the water and tosses the fish at him. "Here!" Kuririn backs away, but the fish runs into him and they roll away, eventually coming to a stop with the fish on top of Kuririn. Goku climbs out of the water. Kuririn sits up from under the fish and laughs.

"Goku, it'll be nice if Gohan is here, too." Kuririn tosses a rock into the stream. "Chichi pushes him to study very hard, and now you're like that, too." He throws another rock in. "Gohan is so pitiful." Standing beside him, Goku wipes up his face. "Alright." Kuririn looks up at him. Goku sits down beside Kuririn and leans back. "Eight days from now, Gohan and I have to fight with Cell. Cell is extremely powerful. To be honest, I don't know if I can beat him. So I want to let Gohan spend more time with Chichi." Kuririn, "Goku..."

Chichi digs around in one of the kitchen cabinets. "The table cloth should be here..." She tosses things out behind her without a second glance. "Where is it, where is it?" A book falls on her head. She yelps and rubs her head. Finally, she looks down at the book. "What's that?" She pulls it out and opens it up. Inside is a photo of her wedding, with Goku standing right beside her. Gyuu Mao is crying in a picture to the right, and under that is a picture of Uranai Baba. "Oh, I miss it!" She flips the page to reveal more wedding photos. Goku on the top left, Chichi on the bottom left, two images of Goku and Chichi together on the right. She flips another page. "Now he's grown into a big boy already." In the image on the left, which takes up the whole page, Chichi holds baby Gohan in her arms while Goku and Gyuu Mao crowd around. "But those days were sweet."

Baby Gohan sleeps peacefully in his crib. A stuffed bear lays next to him, and Chichi and Goku lean over him. Chichi, "How cute." Goku, "But he's a bit too little." Chichi looks up at him. "Babies are little." Gyuu Mao walks over to them. "We need to give him a name." Chichi, "I've thought of one." Gyuu Mao looks up at her, surprised. "What?" Chichi, "Einstein." Goku and Gyuu Mao in unison, "Einstein?" Chichi, "It's the name of a famous scholar." (This sounds like some bad translating... In fact, the subs said "Tolstoy," but it's quite obvious she said "Einstein"). Baby Gohan begins to cry. She rocks him back and forth. Gyuu Mao, "I'm sure he won't like that name." Chichi, "Then let's call him Akimeters." Gohan throws his head back and wails again. Gyuu Mao, "That's no good, either." Chichi, "Then what suggestions do you have, Father?" Gyuu Mao, surprised by her question, laughs nervously and turns around. "I had a few names in mind..." He pulls out a rolled up something, let's it unroll on the floor, and reveals that it's full of various names for the baby. "Gyuu Mao Taro, Gyuu Mao Suke, Doctor Gyuu Mao..." He reads off several variations of "Gyuu Mao" as he goes down the list. The baby begins to cry again. Chichi smiles. "Father's are not good, either." Gyuu Mao, "No?" The clock on the mantle, sitting next to the 4-star Dragon Ball, ticks on as the family sits around the room, trying to come up with a name. Gohan mumbles gibberish and reaches around above himself. Chichi and Gyuu Mao sigh. Suddenly, they both look up together. "That's it!" Goku looks over at them. "Me?" They stand over him. Chichi, "Goku-san, have you thought about it?" Gyuu Mao, "There must be at least one." Goku turns to them. "I..." They lean in closer, listening for his suggestion. Goku stands up. "I..." They both nod twice together. He rubs his head and smiles. "I'm very hungry." Anime fall for Chichi and Gyuu Mao. Chichi, "Goku-san! What kind of nonsense is that?!" Gyuu Mao smiles and stares up at the ceiling. "You just had breakfast!" (for "breakfast," she uses the word "Gohan"). The baby laughs. Gyuu Mao is the only one that takes notice. Chichi continues, "You're not a little kid anymore! You can wait until lunchtime!" (she uses "Gohan" again). Goku, "Sorry." The baby laughs happily. Gyuu Mao stands over him. Chichi, "Goku-san is always like this!" Gyuu Mao looks at them. "Hey, Chichi." She turns around. "What!" Gyuu Mao, "Listen." He turns back to the baby. "Breakfast." The baby laughs. "Lunchtime." More laughing. Goku and Chichi lean over the crib. Gyuu Mao, "Gohan." The baby laughs again. Goku looks back at the Dragon Ball. "Gohan..." He looks back. "Just use Grandfather's name!" Gyuu Mao, "Right! If you use Son Gohan-san's name, I have no objections." Goku, "Alright! You're called Gohan. Son Gohan." He leans over and lifts Gohan out of the crib. "You're happy too, Gohan? Son Gohan!" Gohan continues laughing happily over his new name. Goku lifts him into the air and plays with him. Chichi watches, apparently angry (or maybe annoyed or something), but her expression quickly softens. "Goku-san..."

Chichi shuts the book and walks up the stairs. She throws open the door to Gohan's room. "Gohan." He looks back at her. She stares down at him with an angry expression. She reaches down and shuts his book. "You don't have to study today." Gohan, "Huh?" Chichi, "What's the matter with you? Go and help Goku-san." Gohan smiles. "Okay!"

A camera crew peers over the edge of a hill. The reporter wears a helmet and sports padding. "I'm very afraid now. Today, I do it with all my courage to cover this news, risking my life. Please enjoy it!" They slowly approach the stage on which Cell is standing. "Over there is Cell, who is our hottest subject. Why do I have to do such a job? There are eight more days. The whole human race may be wiped out. Even the highest salary will become meaningless." He turns and looks back into the camera. "But it's too late to realize that now. I wouldn't care less." He turns and continues walking again. "I can only go forward." He stops at the stage and looks up at Cell. "It's scary, indeed!" Cell is completely still. The reporter turns back to his camera. "Ladies and Gentlemen, in case anything happens, let me say goodbye to you now." The other men with the reporter hide behind a rock. One of them jumps up for a moment. "Hurry up." The reporter turns around. "Right."

He creeps across the stage and holds up the microphone to Cell. "Mr. Cell, I want to interview you. Rumors said you came here in a UFO. Is that true? What's the real goal of Cell's Game? If all the contestants lose, which area will you begin your attack with? If human beings escape to outer space, will you go after them? Then..." Cell finally turns to him. "What a nuisance." He sticks out his finger and blasts the hill that the camera crew was hiding behind. The reporter falls back in fear. The camera crew runs away. "Troublesome." The reporter stares up at Cell, terrified. He goes blue in the face and screams. Cell kicks him out of the ring. He lands with a crash.

Goku, Gohan, and Kuririn stare up at a tree with a very peculiar hole straight through one side of it. Kuririn, "Huge..." Goku, "Can these do?" He walks up to the tree and puts a hand on it. "Forgive me, can you let me have some fruit?" He narrows his eyes, pulls back his hand, and powers it up slightly. It begins to glow, and he sticks it palm out on the tree. Golden ki energy flows through the tree. Nothing happens for a while. Kuririn and Gohan simply stare up at the tree. It begins to shake. Fruit falls out of the tree. "Good, Goku." Kuririn holds his shirt out to catch the fruit. Gohan vanishes. Each time some fruit gets near Kuririn, it suddenly disappears. The last piece of fruit falls right between Kuririn's hands, and just as he secures it, it, too, disappears. "What?" Behind them, Gohan appears with each of the apples in his arms. He turns and smiles at them. They turn around and look back at him. Kuririn, "Unbelievable." Gohan laughs. Goku bends over and grabs the big fish, but then looks back at the tree - specifically, at the hole in the tree, and an apple resting in it.

Goku, Gohan, and Chichi walk through the woods with Gohan happily riding along in his stroller. Goku and Chichi watch each other as they walk, and then Chichi finally turns away and sees something beside the path. "Beautiful!" She stares out at a field of flowers just outside the exit of the tree tunnel. A butterfly floats past Gohan, and he grabs at it happily, but misses. "Look, Gohan-chan! Birds!" Some birds sit on a branch above the flowers, feeding a smaller bird. "A family, three of them. Just like ours." Goku, "Yes." He takes his hand off the stroller to shield his eyes (from the sun, I suppose) and look up at the birds. When he removes his hand, the stroller begins to roll down the hill. Gohan screams, a nervous look covers his face. Chichi, "You see that, Gohan-chan?" She looks down at Gohan, and, seeing nothing there, screams. Goku looks back. "Oh no!" Gohan's stroller speeds down the dirt path. Chichi, "Wait a minute!" She and Goku chase it down as fast as they can, but the stroller moves too quickly for them. Gohan screams and cries, flying over hills and through grassy fields. He loses his hat. Goku, "Gohan!" Chichi catches the hat as they run. "Gohan-chan!" The stroller flies over a crevasse, through some leaves. It lands on a direct course straight into a big tree. "Gohan-chan! Goku-san, don't just stand there! Do something about it!" Goku leaps forward toward the speeding stroller. "Gohan-chan!" Gohan screams. Goku ends up running right past the stroller and stops a few feet ahead of the tree. He spins around and runs back, but Gohan has already been thrown from his stroller and toward the huge tree. The stroller smashes into the tree and breaks apart. Chichi screams. Gohan suddenly stops screaming. He clenches his fists, his body glows. He flies straight through the tree, out the other side, and into his father's waiting arms. Goku lands as large chunks of wood hit the ground nearby. Goku looks down at Gohan. "Hmm?" Chichi runs up to them. "Gohan-chan!!" She finally catches up and snatches Gohan out of Goku's arms. "Gohan-chan!" She hugs him. "Are you hurt?" Gohan smiles and looks up at her. She sighs and falls to her knees. "Good, Father saved you. Good for you." Goku, "It wasn't me." Chichi, "You did save him. But in fact, you shouldn't have let go! You'll get yourself killed, you must be more careful next time!" Goku, "Sorry." Gohan mumbles happily. Chichi stands up and puts his hat back on him. "Gohan-chan, your father is outrageous. We'll leave him alone. Come home with me." Goku, "Ah, Chichi!" Goku looks back up at the tree. "Sorry, there's a hole."

"Father, let's go." Goku looks back at him. "Hmm? Right." Kuririn, "We must be having a great dinner." Goku drags the big fish behind him. "I'm starving."

Night has fallen on the Son home. "Gohan-chan, congratulations. Happy 11th birthday." Everyone in unison, "Happy birthday." The cake is decorated with pictures of Goku, Gohan, and Chichi. Gohan looks at Gyuu Mao, Kuririn, Goku, and Chichi, who are all crowded around the table with him. "Thank you." Gyuu Mao, "Gohan, I have a lot of gifts for you." Gohan looks back at the wrapped packages. "Wow, thank you Grandpa Gyuu Mao." Chichi, "Gohan-chan, blow out the candles first." Goku, "Alright!" Kuririn, "Make a wish." Gohan, "Okay!" He stands up, inhales, and blows out the candles...and the cake. Pieces of the cake hit everyone on the other side of the table. Gohan yelps. A sweat-drop appears on the exterior of the house. A frog watches from outside. Goku, "Gohan, it looks like you still can't control your power." Gohan laughs nervously. Chichi rises up behind him. "Gohan..." She wipes her face clean. "Mother, sorry." Everyone stands, more or less cleaned up, on the other side of the table. Chichi walks over to them. Gohan stares down at the floor, sadly, quietly. Chichi reaches the other three people, then turns around and looks at Gohan. Looking angry, she opens her mouth and speaks. "Well, you're Goku-san's son." She smiles, Goku smiles, Gohan, relieved that she's not angry, smiles. Together, they all laugh. The image is snapped as a photograph for the photo album. Goku and Gohan shovel noodles into their mouths and suck them up. The image of them with the noodles hanging out is snapped as a photograph. Gyuu Mao and Chichi sit together, laughing. Once again, the photograph is taken. Goku and Gohan look at each other with the noodles hanging out, and another image is taken. Gohan opens a package, finds a telescope inside, holds it up with a smile; a photo is taken.

Cell stands waiting on his stage. The Cell Game is now only seven days away.
