Trunks, Leaving for the Future

[Note: Based on the manga. I'll rewrite it for the anime when the DVD is available.]

Shenron hovers over God's Shrine, still awaiting the wish. "What are you doing? Say your second wish fast. Whatever you wish, I will grant it, or do you have no other wish?" One of the Z Senshi (in this panel, they're shown from far above, so I can't tell which is which), "Wha...what should we do? What do we want?" Another, "If we don't hurry up, Shenron will disappear." Yamucha, nervously, "The girl I'm going out with wants an expensive diamond necklace, would that be bad?" The others are silent. Kuririn's head is lowered in thought, unsure of what to wish for now that the wish to revive Son Goku has been rejected. Finally, he comes up with something and turns back to the dragon. "Shenron, can you turn Number 17 and Number 18 into normal humans?" Number 18, hiding behind her nearby column, is shocked by his wish. Shenron answers, "I can't do that! Both Androids are much stronger than me, so I can't do anything to their persons." Number 18 greets the answer with silence and apparent indifference.

Kuririn lowers his head in disappointment. "Shoot, it didn't work." Yamucha, "Why did you wish for Number 17, too? He should be dead." Piccolo, "No, the first wish brought back everyone killed by Cell; therefore, it wouldn't be strange to have Number 17 resurrected, as well." Kuririn looks back to the dragon with a smile. "Well how about this wish? Can you take out the explosives that have been planted in both of their bodies?" Number 18 still remains silent behind her column. Shenron, "That is possible, power has nothing to do with that." A pause. "Granted! Both explosive devices have been taken out of their bodies. Farewell." Shenron disappears and the Dragon Balls rise into the air. Number 18 watches the seven glowing spheres scatter across the Earth once again.

Trunks, "Kuririn-san, why did you ask for something like that?" Kuririn, "Well, because I thought it was sad having a bomb inside of your body..." Gohan, "You're a nice person."

Number 18 remains behind her column, her head lowered just a bit. Kuririn turns to Yamucha. "Yamucha, I'm sorry you couldn't give your girlfriend her necklace." Yamucha laughs. "Don't be foolish, I was just kidding! There's no way I could use Shenron for such a purpose!" Tenshinhan, "By the way, Kuririn... Why did you take out Number 17's bomb, as well?" Kuririn smiles nervously. "Well, uh, I like Number 18, but don't you think she would go better with Number 17?" Piccolo's arms are crossed, and he looks down slightly. "That looks like that romance stuff. I don't understand it."

Number 18 jumps out from behind her column. "Stupid! Number 17 and I were twins!" Kuririn and Gohan look back at her, surprised. Number 18, "But don't think I'm getting soft! I'm not going to thank you for removing the explosives! Damn octopus!" She turns around, but still turns her head to look back at him. She stares silently back at him like this for a few seconds (I suppose... it shows her like this for two panels). Finally, she speaks. "See you later." She turns and flies away, leaving Kuririn confused.

Yamucha hits him on the back. "She said she'd see you later! Maybe you do have a chance! But she's a monster, so don't get your hopes up!" Piccolo, now detached from the group, listens a bit to their conversation. "I don't understand it at all..."

Silence, aside from Yamucha's nervous laughter. Kuririn, "But I'm only halfway happy... It's just not the same without Goku..." Tenshinhan, "Well, I'm going home. Chaouzu's probably worrying." He turns, but looks back at them, waving. "I doubt I'll ever meet you again... Well, have a healthy life..." Yamucha, "You too." Gohan, "Bye! Tell Chaouzu hello for me." Ten, "Okay." He turns to Trunks. "Trunks, you should be strong enough to easily beat the Androids in the future." Trunks smiles. "Right!" Goodbyes said, Tenshinhan exits.

"I think we should be going, too." (the manga panel is from a distance, so I don't know who's saying that line.) Gohan, "Trunks, when do you go back to the future?" Trunks, "I'm going to spend the night here, and then after a good night's sleep, go back." Kuririn, "We'll see you off tomorrow." Gohan, "Piccolo-san, are you going to live here?" Piccolo, "Yes, those are my plans." Gohan smiles up at him. "Do you mind if I come by every once in a while?" Piccolo smiles back down at him. "Of course not."

Gohan, "See you later, Dende. See you later, Mr. Popo!" Gohan, Kuririn, Yamucha, and Trunks fly off. They race toward the ground, waving as they pass Karin's Tower. Beyond Karin's place, Gohan and Kuririn part ways with Yamucha and Trunks. They smile and wave to each other as they head off in opposite directions.

Trunks looks over to Yamucha as they fly. "What happened to my father?" Yamucha, "When you were killed, he got angrier than I thought he would and, without thinking, he attacked Cell." Trunks smiles. "Really? My father did that?" Meanwhile, Gohan returns home to Paozu-yama. When Chichi sees him, she drops to the floor, crying. It's my presumption she's crying about Son Goku, but there's no dialogue here.

The next day, everyone gathers in front of the Capsule Corporation HQ to see Trunks off. Trunks, sporting another haircut, says his goodbyes to everyone. Even Vegeta makes an attempt at waving, however small it may be, and Trunks reflects the same "wave," consisting of simply holding up two fingers. Trunks smiles. He jumps into the time machine and lifts off. As Gohan, Kuririn, Yamucha, and Son Goku's spirit watch with a smile, the time machine disappears, carrying him back to his time.
