SERIES OVERVIEW

THE SAIYA-JIN SAGA

An evil force arrives on Earth. This long haired (and I do mean that very literally) alien easily kills a farmer, then takes a full blast from Piccolo without being singed. He finds Son Goku at Kame House and tells him that he and Goku are from the planet Vegeta. They're aliens, called Saiya-jin, and he is Goku's brother, Raditsu. Saiya-jin are planet pirates, but Vegeta was wiped out by meteors years ago. There are only four remaining Saiya-jin, and Raditsu and Goku are two of them. Raditsu wants Goku to come with him, but Goku will have nothing of it. Raditsu kidnaps Gohan, Goku's four year old son, and charges Goku with the task of killing 100 humans.

Goku and Piccolo team up and take on Raditsu. Gohan gets very angry and his power erupts in an explosion of emotion. He damages his uncle Raditsu enough for Goku and Piccolo to defeat him. Goku holds Raditsu from behind while Piccolo charges his Makkankousappo. Piccolo fires the blast straight through the chests of Goku and Raditsu, and the two of them die. Before Raditsu dies, he talks with Piccolo, and Piccolo mentions the Dragon Balls. His scouter, a device on his face, transmits the conversation to the Saiya-jin Nappa and Vegeta (yes, the same name as the planet, because he's the prince). They decide to come to Earth, and it'll take them one year to get there. Goku trains with Kaiosama (one of many gods in the deity hierarchy of Dragon Ball), Gohan and Piccolo train together, and the human Z Senshi train under Kamisama (God of the Earth).

One year later, the Saiya-jin arrive. Yamucha is killed by Saibamen, little green men that Nappa literally planted in the ground. Chaouzu then self destructs to kill Nappa, but fails. Tenshinhan concentrates all of his power into a single Kikohou, dying as a result of the blast. Unfortunately, he fails as well. Last, Piccolo dies. Gohan attacks Nappa and gets some good hits in, so Nappa gets really angry and throws a huge blast at Gohan. Piccolo jumps in the way, taking the full force himself. Piccolo dies, taking Kami with him (and the Dragon Balls, too). Nappa picks up where he left off and is about to kill Gohan when Son Goku arrives (he had been revived, but was taking a long time to return to the Earth). Goku easily defeats Nappa, and Vegeta kills him.

Vegeta and Goku fly off elsewhere to fight, and they trade the advantage back and forth. First Vegeta, then Goku, then Vegeta, then Goku, then Vegeta. Goku gets beaten up when Vegeta turns Oozaru (giant monkey), and falls back on his last resort. He flashes Vegeta in the eyes with a Taiyoken ("Solar flare" in America), then flies off and forms a Genki Dama. Before he can throw it, Vegeta recovers and beats him up some more. Gohan and Kuririn return, but fail to get Vegeta back to normal. Yajirobe, who had been watching from the sidelines, steps in and slashes off Vegeta's tail. Gohan and Vegeta fight, and Goku gives the remaining energy from the Genki Dama to Kuririn. He forms in into a ball and throws it at Vegeta. Vegeta survives the blast, and it seems hopeless. Gohan then turns Oozaru and beats up Vegeta. Vegeta cuts off his tail and Gohan lands on Vegeta. Vegeta's too weak to continue and summons his ship. Kuririn is about to kill him, but Goku pleads with him to spare Vegeta. After much debate, Kuririn finally agrees, and Vegeta goes.

Bulma, Kamesennin, etc. all arrive in a Capsule plane and pick up their friends. They fly back to the spot of the original battle and collect the bodies of their fallen comrades, then they take Goku, Gohan, and Kuririn to the hospital. Vegeta flies off into space, seeking recovery...and revenge.

THE FREEZA SAGA

Our heroes recover from their wounds and decide on a course of action. They choose to go to the planet Namek, Piccolo's home. They have no way of getting there until Mr. Popo arrives and helps out. He knows of a ship (it's actually Kami's ship) that could take them there. Bulma inspects it, they find it in working order, some minor repairs are made, and the group sets off.

A few detours are seen in the anime only. After finally getting through them, Bulma, Kuririn, and Son Gohan land on Namek. They find that not only has Vegeta come as well, but there's another power, much stronger than Vegeta. This power is Freeza, an evil alien MAN (despite the English dub) who is searching for the Dragon Balls to reach immortality. He's the leader of a group of space pirates who conquer planets for him. He goes from village to village (using his scouter to locate the villages) collecting Dragon Balls from the village elder, with the help of his loyal minions, Dodoria and Zarbon.

Vegeta arrives at the same time as the Earthlings. Unlike the Earthlings, though, Vegeta is noticed by Freeza. Kui (one of Freeza's stronger men) is sent to take care of Vegeta, but Vegeta easily defeats him. All three parties go on their search for Dragon Balls, and Freeza already has four.

Freeza takes off for another village, and Gohan and Kuririn follow, pushing their powers down to avoid detection. They watch Freeza's actions at a Namek village, but refuse to let themselves be seen. They finally jump into action to save a young Namekseijin child called Dende when Dodoria goes after him (having just brutally murdered Dende's brother, Kargo). Gohan knocks Dodoria into a house, then Kuririn gets a good hit in before Dodoria can retaliate, and the two of them, along with Dende, make their escape.

Dodoria follows, ends up blowing up a huge chunk of land, and leaves, satisifed that they've been killed. Along the way, Vegeta stops him. Dodoria tells Vegeta a story in exchange for his life. His story is that of the destruction of Vegeta's home planet (also called Vegeta), which was not cuased by a meteor at all; rather, it was Freeza's doing. Dodoria begins to fly off after telling his story, but Vegeta goes back on his word and fries Dodoria.

The Earthlings take Dende back to their little hideout and find that Bulma's got a capsule house open in the cave they're staying in. She meets Dende and tells them that Son Goku is on his way to Namek (he had been left behind because his wounds were too bad for him to come along). Meanwhile, Vegeta's taking out a Namek village of his own to retrieve the Dragon Ball. Freezas' men's scouters have been destroyed (by the elder at Dende's village), so Freeza can't locate any villages. Vegeta knows this and throws his Dragon Ball into a lake for later retrieval. The Earthlings and Dende see things going on a great distance away (this is Vegeta wreaking havoc on the village). Dende tells them about Saichorou, the Eldest Namekseijin, and Kuririn and Dende leave to meet him.

While they're gone, Gohan flies off with the Dragon Ball radar and takes Vegeta's Dragon Ball. Kuririn and Dende meet Saichorou, and Saichorou unlocks Kuririn's hidden potential. Kuririn gets a large power up and the One-Star Dragon Ball. He leaves Dende with Saichorou and flies back to Bulma and Gohan with the Dragon Ball.

During this whole thing, Vegeta and Zarbon have fought. Vegeta was badly beaten, but because he's the only one who knows the location of the sixth Dragon Ball, Zarbon took him back to Freeza for healing. Vegeta escapes and steals all five of Freeza's Dragon Balls. Zarbon flies after him, but Vegeta's too clever for that. He swims, submerged. Vegeta sees Kuririn flying by with a Dragon Ball and jumps into action. Zarbon sees Vegeta and falls in behind them, and they all end up at Bulma's cave. Vegeta and Zarbon go at it again, but this time, Vegeta's much stronger (Saiya-jin get a large power boost when they're revived from death or near death). Vegeta has no trouble with Zarbon this time, and blasts a hole through the warrior. He takes Kuririn's Dragon Ball and flies off to get the seventh Dragon Ball, which Gohan has already acquired.

Gohan and Vegeta meet along the way, but Gohan hides the Dragon Ball. Vegeta knees him in the stomach, says a few words, and flies off. Gohan returns to the group, Dragon Ball in hand. Kuririn and Gohan fly off to Saichorou's to get Gohan's power unlocked. They arrive with Vegeta in hot pursuit. Kuririn stays back to hold him off and sends Gohan in to talk to Saichorou. Gohan gets his power up and runs back out with the warrior Nail, Saichorou's body guard (who looks remarkably similar to Piccolo). It looks like there's about to be trouble, but five enormous kis are suddenly counted. Vegeta counts them off and realizes it's the Ginyu Tokusentai. Kuririn and Gohan form a temporary truce with Vegeta and fly off to get their Dragon Ball. Before they can make any wishes, the Ginyu Tokusentai arrive.

Ginyu (the leader) steals all seven Dragon Balls and takes them back to Freeza, leaving Rikumu, Bata, Jiisu, and Gurudo to fight the Z Senshi. Gurudo is decapitated by Vegeta, then Rikumu attacks. He beats Vegeta senseless, then fells Kuririn in one hit. Gohan takes him on, but ends up with a broken neck. It looks grim, but a light streaks across the sky.

Nearby, Son Goku lands on planet Namek. He senses all the different ki's and flies off toward Gohan's and Kuririn's. He arrives at the battle, senzu in hand. He revives Gohan, then Kuririn. Goku reads Kuririn's thoughts to see what's happened to them on Namek, then sends a senzu over to Vegeta. He takes on Rikumu, but it's not much of a fight. One hit from Son Goku, and Rikumu's motionless on the ground. Jiisu and Bata step into action. Goku eventually defeats Bata, and Jiisu watches as Vegeta kills the two unconscious fighters. He runs off for Ginyu and the Z Senshi work out a plan. Gohan and Kuririn go off to get the Dragon Balls, and Vegeta stays with Goku to fight. Just as Ginyu and Jiisu arrive, Vegeta flies off to get the Dragon Balls himself. Goku takes on Ginyu and reveals his full power, which dwarfs that of Ginyu. Ginyu damages himself, then swaps bodies with Goku and flies off with Jiisu, leaving an extremely weak Goku in Ginyu's body. They return to the ship and fight the Z Senshi there. Goku arrives and joins in, and the Ginyu Tokusentai is defeated (Vegeta kills Jiisu, Ginyu tries body swap with Vegeta and Goku jumps in the way, then again, and Goku throws a frog in the way... Ginyu is now a frog and Goku's himself again).

Kuririn goes to Saichorou's to get the Dragon Ball password, Gohan guards the Dragon Balls, and Goku sits in a rejuvenation tank while Vegeta naps. Kuririn meets Dende on the way, the two of them return, and Gohan, Kuririn, and Dende summon Porunga (the Namek dragon) without waking Vegeta. They wish back Piccolo, then wish him to Namek (he ends up in the middle of no where), and then Vegeta wakes. Vegeta flies off to them and threatens them. Dende begins to yell out Vegeta's wish (wishes must be made in the Namek tongue, so only Dende can do it), but Saichorou dies and the Dragon Balls go with him. Freeza arrives and the battle begins.

There's little battle before Freeza transforms. He turns into a larger version of himself and impales Kuririn. Gohan kicks his ass for that, then gets the crap beaten out of him when Freeza recovers. Piccolo finally arrives and easily deals with Freeza. Freeza undergoes another transformation and makes short work of Piccolo. Gohan grows enraged again and nearly topples the evil warrior with a Masenkou. Freeza barely survives, and decides to transform once more. He reaches his final form, then kills Dende (he sees that Dende is the one who heals everyone).

Vegeta takes him on but gets beaten up. Freeza is just about to kill him when Son Goku arrives at the battle. Vegeta pleads with Goku to destroy Freeza, saying that Freeza needs to die at the hands of a Saiya-jin. Vegeta dies, Goku buries him, and the battle begins. They seem pretty well matched, but in reality, Freeza is worlds (or dimensions? Sorry) beyond Goku. He starts to demonstrate this and Goku gets really angry. Goku powers up to 20x Kaio-ken for the first time (he never did it prior to this, despite what the dub says) and throws a Kamehameha that Freeza has a lot of trouble deflecting. When even the 20x Kaio-ken fails, Goku resorts to his ultimate weapon. He begins forming an enormous Genki Dama, which he eventually drops on Freeza (yes, drops...it forms in outer space because he uses energy from other planets, as well as Namek). Freeza barely survives and sends a Freeza beam (basically a Kienzan that's not a disk...it can cut through anything) straight at Goku's heart. Piccolo jumps in the way, pushing Goku out of harm's way. Piccolo gets shot through the chest and collapses. Everyone believes he's dead and Gohan runs up to him. Freeza then kills Kuririn. Goku's getting REALLY angry now. Freeza wonders who to go after next and threatens Gohan...and Goku just goes over the edge. He begins powering up unconsciously and transforms into the Legendary Super Saiya-jin.

Freeza is no match, and Goku easily beats up on him. Freeza sends a blast at Namek's center to destroy the planet, thereby killing Goku (because Goku can't breathe in outer space and Freeza can). They fight some more and Freeza powers up to 100% (he was in his final form, but not at full power). Freeza's new power is still not higher than Goku's, but it's much closer, and the battle seems about equal again. During the fight, Shenlon is summoned on Earth to revive everyone Freeza killed. Porunga is restored because Saichorou is revived, and Dende makes a third wish to move everyone except Goku and Freeza to Earth. Freeza tries to make his wish, but he doesn't speak the Namek language, and Porunga ignores him. Freeza gets pissed when Goku tells him about their wish. They fight back and forth for a while, then Freeza seems defeated. Goku leaves, saying that Freeza's pride has been crushed and things of that sort. Freeza, unwilling to accept defeat, throws a following Kienzan at Goku. He eventually sends a second one up, and the two of them fight a bit more. Freeza is cut in half by his own Kienzan, and Goku spares him a bit of power so that he can get off of Namek. Freeza uses the power to attack Goku. Goku gets really pissed and finishes Freeza then and there. He flies off and escapes Namek (although it seems he died at first).

On Earth, Saichorou passes the title of Eldest Namek onto another Namekseijin and dies. The Namek Dragon Balls become functional again one Namek year later (which is 156 days) and wishes are made to move Kuririn and Goku to Earth's gateway with Heaven and revive Kuririn, then Goku. The wish is not completed because Goku is not dead, which is news to everyone there (even Kaiosama didn't know he had survived). Instead, they revive Kuririn and Yamucha. They wait, the Dragon Balls become functional again, and Tenshinhan and Chaouzu are both revived. The third wish moves the Nameksejin to a new planet.

Later, before Goku returns to Earth, Cyborg Freeza and his father, King Cold, arrive on Earth. A mysterious boy named Trunks easily defeats (kills) all of them after turning Super Saiya-jin, then waits with the Z Senshi for Son Goku to arrive. Goku returns and Trunks tests his power before telling him a story...

THE ARTIFICIAL HUMAN SAGA

Trunks tells Son Goku of his future where terror reigns, and two Artificial Humans created by Dr. Gero of the former Red Ribbon Army basically run the world by instilling fear in all. Piccolo, Vegeta, Kuririn, Yamucha, and Tenshinhan have all been killed by the Artificial Humans, and three years ago (in Trunks' time line, obviously), even Son Gohan was killed. Goku asks why he didn't fight them, and Trunks says that Goku died of a viral hear disease that can't be cured presently, and didn't survive long enough to even see the Artificial Humans. He gives Goku a small vial containing medicine that has been developed for the disease in Trunks' future. Trunks slips in that he's the son of Vegeta and Bulma, then leaves, going back to his time.

Goku tells everyone of the future, but no one believes the story until Trunks' time machine vanishes overhead. They decide to train, and for the next three years, they do just that. Piccolo, Goku, and Gohan train together, Vegeta trains in 400 Gs using a space capsule like the one Dr. Briefs built for Goku, and everyone else trains in their own ways.

Three years pass and everyone meets up at the island where Trunks said the Artificial Humans would appear. Bulma carries a small baby called Trunks... a shock to everyone but Goku and Piccolo. The Artificial Humans have no ki, but Yamucha finds them. Artificial Human 20 puts his arm completely through Yamucha's chest, covering his mouth with the other hand. Yamucha tries to fight it, but goes eventually begins to go limp. Number 20 finally removes his hand, and blood pools on the ground. The other Z Senshi sense Yamucha's dying ki and go to it. They and the Artificial Humans go off to a more remote area and Goku takes on number 19. Goku's heart problems begin to set in though, and he gets weaker and weaker. Artificial Human 19 is quickly gaining the upper hand, and starts sucking out Goku's ki. Before he can finish, Vegeta arrives and shows off a new ability. He turns Super Saiya-jin and easily defeats Artificial Human 19 with a Big Bang attack. Trunks arrives and Number 20 escapes before meeting the same fate, reviving Artificial Humans 17 and 18. They destroy the shut off controller, revive Artificial Human 16, and destroy Dr. Gero (Artificial Human 20). In an effort to stop the revival of 16, Trunks fires a tremendous blast that destroys that area of Dr. Gero's lab. He's unsuccessful, and 16 is revived anyway. The trio flies off to destroy Son Goku.

Obviously, the Z Senshi will not sit idly by and watch this happen. They pursue, and the result is a battle between Super Saiya-jin Vegeta and Artificial Human 18 on a busy freeway. I won't go into detail, but let's just say Vegeta loses pretty badly. Number 17 steps in midway through the fight to make sure the other Z Senshi don't join in, and Number 17 stands by, watching but not joining. The rest of the Z Senshi eventually join the fight, along with Number 17. The added numbers don't turn the tables in favor of the Earth very much, and all of the warriors are defeated. The Artificial Humans run off to find Son Goku, showing that these Artificial Humans are apparently not as evil as the ones in Trunks' future.

The Jinzouningen steal a car and start cruising while the Z Senshi regroup and Bulma discovers something disturbing... A time machine, just like Trunks' has been found. It's old and rusted, apparently very old. But... Mirai no Bulma only made one time machine. The Trunks, Bulma, and Kuririn go to check it out. Indeed, it is Trunks' time machine. These suspicions are confirmed when Trunks finds the word "HOPE!!!" scrawled on the side (he had written it there himself before going back to the past). Nearby, a giant shell is found, and it's determined that it can't be too old.

Meanwhile, two other things are going on. First of all, cities are being attacked and wiped out... and no one knows who's doing it. It's basically like a neutron bomb. The people are completely wiped out without a trace, but everything else is left intact. While this has been going on, Piccolo has traveled to God's Shrine. His goal is to join together with God and recreate the original Piccolo. After much contemplation, Kamisama agrees, and the original Piccolo returns to Earth.

Piccolo arrives in a city in the process of being attacked and finds an alien-like being has been sucking the life out of the people there. His name is Cell, and he's an Artificial Human, created by Dr. Gero's computer. His goal is to absorb Juunanagou and Juuhachigou and reach his Perfect form. At this point, Piccolo is the strongest Z Senshi, and Cell states that even at his present strength, only Piccolo would be able to contend with him. They finish introductions and Piccolo finds that he's in for a real shocker. Cell's ki begins to take on a familiar feel and he gets into that all too familiar position and begins calling out his attack name. "KA!...ME!...HA!...ME!...HA!" Cell possesses the ki of Son Goku himself.

Actually, Cell contains the cells of Son Goku, Piccolo, Freeza, Vegeta, and all the other Z Senshi (hence, the name). There's a short scuffle and Piccolo and Cell end up in the air. Cell has a tight grip on Piccolo, and it looks like the Namekseijin just might be a bit in over his head. Cell sticks his tail into Piccolo's arm and begins sucking the life out of it. Piccolo escapes and rips off the dead arm, then regenerates a new one. Cell uses the Taiyo-ken to escape as Trunks and Kuririn arrive.

Piccolo, Vegeta, Tenshinhan, Kuririn, and Trunks discuss what to do. Vegeta's all for the "Let him combine, I'll kill him then" plan, whereas everyone else wants to keep them as weak as possible by separating them. Vegeta states that he will surpass Super Saiya-jin, which comes as a surprise to everyone else. He assures them that Goku will eventually do the same. Vegeta flies off and the remaining warriors disperse.

Piccolo and Ten stick around, looking for Cell, but come up unsuccessful. Trunks and Kuririn go back to the remains of Dr. Gero's lab to destroy the unborn Cell, thus at least leaving their future Cell-less. They arrive, and Trunks takes the Artificial Humans' blueprints. The two of them proceed to wipe the lab off the face of the Earth, then they leave. While all of this goes on, Gohan trains and Goku continues his recovery from his heart disease at Kame House (the Artificial Humans would have gone to his house, and that would have been bad).

Cell continues on his little rampage, stealing lives to make himself stronger. Kuririn finally finds him and actually gets a few good hits in, but doesn't defeat Cell. Before help arrives, Cell has escaped once again. Meanwhile, Son Goku has awoken and plans to surpass Super Saiya-jin before attempting to fight with the Artificial Humans. Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks travel to God's Shrine to make use of the Room of Spirit and Time, a place where one day in the real world equals one year inside the room. The room allows only two people at a time, so Vegeta and Trunks go in, then Goku and Gohan.

Almost a day after Vegeta and Trunks go in, the Artificial Humans show up at Kame House. They find that Son Goku is not present, and obviously, Piccolo refuses to reveal Son's true location. Piccolo challenges the Jinzouningen, and they fly off to a nearby island to battle. They fight, and Piccolo's fusion with Kamisama is definitely helping. He's taking on 17 pretty well...until Cell shows up, anyway. Piccolo is no longer any match for Cell, and gets beaten. He's feared dead by the other warriors, but of course, he's not. Anyway, Cell fights number 17 briefly, but 17 isn't any trouble for him, either.

Artificial Human 16 finally steps up to fight, and beats up on Cell for a while. Cell finally gets an opportunity to absorb 17, and he takes it. With Artificial Human 17 absorbed, Cell is now much more powerful than 16. Before 16 is destroyed, Vegeta and Trunks show up. Vegeta increases his ki and reaches Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 2. While this is happening, Bulma gets a special controller to Kuririn. She created it using the blueprints Trunks had taken from Dr. Gero's lab, and it'll detonate the Artificial Humans. The catch... it must be used within 10 meters of the Artificial Humans or it won't work. Kuririn flies off to the island and gets close enough to do it, but flashes back to different things with 18 (a kiss on the freeway and such) and destroys the controller. Anyway, back to Vegeta... He beats the crap out of Non-Perfect Cell for a while, but Cell tells him about how much more powerful he'll be if he can absorb 18. As should be well known, Vegeta loves fighting strong opponents, so he allows Cell to become Perfect. Trunks tries to interfere, but Vegeta keeps knocking him away. Finally Trunks blasts Vegeta, and we don't hear from the Saiya-jin prince again for a while. Number 18 tries to get away, and Kuririn tries to defend her. However, a Taiyo-ken from Cell renders even Trunks useless, and Cell absorbs Artificial Human 18.

THE CELL GAME

Super Vegeta (the name he gave himself when he reached USSJS2) can't do much to him, and he's knocked out. Trunks asks Kuririn to take Vegeta back, and Kuririn complies. Kuririn and Vegeta leave and Trunks increases his ki. He reaches Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 3 and begins to fight Cell. This form is much too slow, though, and Trunks is defeated. To end the battle, Cell decides to hold a tournament to decide the fate of the world. It will be called Cell's Game, and its rules are basically the same as those of the Tenkaichi Budokai. Cell leaves and Trunks goes to prepare for the Cell Game with the other Z Senshi.

Trunks returns to the other Z Senshi and together they await Cell's announcement. Soon enough, Cell...borrows a television station to introduce himself and make his announcement. The world has 10 days to destruction unless he can be defeated in battle...it looks pretty grim. Enter the champion of the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai (which we never saw), Mr. Satan! Mr. Satan is...well, nothing compared to the Z Senshi, but he thinks pretty highly of himself, and he IS strong. To demonstrate his strength, he drags some buses across an arena. Still... any one of our warriors would throw that same bus.

Mr. Satan claims he can and will defeat Cell. Meanwhile, the Z Senshi pay no attention to him. They continue their training, and Son Goku and Son Gohan eventually come out of the Room of Spirit and Time. Their clothes are shredded...and what's more is that Gohan has become a Super Saiya-jin. The two of them have been able to naturally keep the state, which of course, doesn't please Vegeta. Goku checks up on Cell and says that he honestly doesn't know whether or not he can win. Even so, he's not worried in the least, and even refuses another shot at the Room of Spirit and Time, baffling everyone. He says that he and Gohan will train on the Earth for the next nine days, with intermittent days of rest and training.

On a more personal note, the next few episodes are some of my personal favorite non-fighting episodes in the entire series. We see the Son family as a normal family, not the family of fighters who continue to save the world time and time again, despite Chi Chi's disapproval. Since a year passed in the Room, they celebrate Gohan' 11th birthday. Gohan and Goku relax outside while Kuririn watches, amazed that they could be so calm. They have no worries. Gohan trusts in his father's power, and Goku seems to trust in...something that he won't let anyone else in on.

And so the days of training and resting go buy. The Room of Spirit and Time gets some more use, including Piccolo taking a turn of his own, but the Son family remains on Earth the whole time. Eventually, the day of Cell's Game arrives. Vegeta and Artificial Human 16 show up ahead of the rest of the Z Senshi, and of course, Mr. Satan and his entourage. The other Z Senshi fly in and Mr. Satan claims it's a trick... must be a trick, since he can't fly. Mr. Satan and his followers take on Cell first. With Satansama are the runner ups from the Tenkaichi Budokai. Each one gets knocked out easily, so Mr. Satan himself takes a shot at it. He goes up to fight Cell, but Cell's arm moves, smacking Satan. He apparently "slips" and flies several yards out of the ring. Oops.

Son Goku steps up for a shot at Cell. They seem to be pretty evenly matched, and Goku even completely destroys Cell's upper half with a Kamehameha (Cell regenerates), but in the end, he begins to run low on power and surrenders. He asks if he can name the next contestant, and Cell allows him to. Cell states that while Piccolo, Vegeta, and Trunks are all very strong, they're not even as strong as Goku. Being such, they are not worthy opponents. As you can imagine, Vegeta doesn't like that... but then again, it is true, and Vegeta knows it. Goku names his choice for Cell's next opponent.

"It's your turn, Gohan." Everyone is shocked, and they all urge Goku to reconsider. Cell doesn't believe Gohan could compete with him, and even he tries to change Goku's mind. Goku ignores all of them and talks to Gohan. Gohan doesn't think he can do it, but agrees to try. He pulls off his cape (yep, Piccolo's clothes again) and lowers himself down to the battle (the Z Senshi are watching from atop a cliff). He raises his ki, which is higher than anyone except Goku expected. Despite this, none of them believe Gohan can win. Goku just watches.

The fight begins and Gohan easily blocks Cell's hits. Cell says that he's pretty good and decides to use his full speed. At this point, Gohan gets the crap kicked out of him. At one point during the battle, Artificial Human 16 jumps in and tries to self destruct on Cell...only to find that Bulma and Dr. Briefs removed his self-detonation mechanism. Cell blows him to pieces and continues. Gohan finally tells Cell that he thinks he knows why his father chose him to fight, and describes all the events in which he got angry and became tremendously powerful. Cell doesn't believe him, but is intrigued nonetheless. He vows to bring forth Gohan's hidden power so that he can fight a stronger opponent (must be those Saiya-jin cells). He beats up on Gohan for a while, but it doesn't work. Seeing this, Cell decides to go after the other fighters on the cliff. He spits out 7 small mini-Cells, called Cell Jr.'s, from what remains of his tail. Each one goes to fight a Z Senshi. As can be expected, Ten, Yamucha, and Kuririn don't have much of a chance. Even Super Saiya-jin Vegeta and Trunks are having a hard time, and Goku never bothered to get a senzu, so he's REALLY in bad shape. Piccolo gains the upper hand on his Cell Jr. and begins helping out the others so that they can defend Goku.

Even the Cell Jr's don't get Gohan, though. Over by Satansama and Co. rests the head of Artificial Human 16. Being a robot, he's not dead, and he speaks to the people. He asks Mr. Satan to take him (meaning just his head) to Gohan. Mr. Satan doesn't want to and the others argue against it as well, but 16 gets to his pride and Satan agrees to help out. He gets relatively close and then throws the head toward Gohan. It lands nearby and 16 speaks to an angry Gohan. He asks Gohan to save the world, the planet that he loves. Cell strolls over and smashes the head under his foot. "You always were an inferior model." Well, that's just about all Gohan can take. He phases out for a few seconds and screams as his power explodes. Everything stops and all eyes are on Son Gohan. Even the Cell Jr's stop their fighting to watch what's going on. Gohan is pissed and he's not going to take much more of this. Cell orders the Cell Jr's to kill their opponents, and Gohan gets even ANGRIER. His hair goes straight up (it had previously been up and out) and Gohan reaches Super Saiya-jin level 2.

Super Gohan 2 (basically, another name for Super Saiya-jin 2 Gohan) takes on each and every Cell Jr himself, killing each one in a single hit. Then, he takes back the bag of senzu before Cell can even react (Cell had stolen the bag earlier on). He throws the bag to Trunks and tells him to get a senzu to everyone. Trunks complies and the battle goes on.

Well, not really... Cell is no match for Gohan now, and Gohan easily beats up on him. Two punches cripple Cell, and his Perfect Body begins to break down. He spits out Artificial Human 18 and reverts back to his mid-form between Original and Perfect. He now has absolutely no chance. Any of the Saiya-jin and possibly even Piccolo could take him alone in this form. He goes to his last resort. Self destruction. He gets really bloated as he prepares to explode, and Gohan basically beats himself senseless (not literally, though) for toying with Cell and not killing him earlier. All looks grim until Goku steps in. He says goodbye and teleports over to Cell. He says goodbye to Gohan and then puts his hand on Cell and they vanish.

In Heaven, Cell and Goku have suddenly appeared at Kaiosama's...right as Cell explodes. Kaiosama, Gregory, Bubbles, and Son Goku are killed. Cell is no where to be found, and Goku wonders aloud about that as they travel toward the check in station with Enma.

Gohan is obviously not happy in the least, and he blames himself for his father's death. Suddenly, Trunks drops dead, a hole in his chest. A familiar laugh rings out and Perfect Cell reappears. He explains that one cell remained, and from that, he regened his entire body. Because of his Saiya-jin cells, he received a substantial power up. He can now maintain Perfect Form without Artificial Human 18, and he's even more powerful than he was before. Vegeta, angered at the death of Trunks, strikes at Cell, but is beaten up. Cell prepares to blast Vegeta, but Gohan intervenes and takes the blast full on. His left arm is pretty much shredded now, and his power's running low. Cell raises his ki and prepares to wipe out the planet. Vegeta apologizes to Gohan for his actions.

Gohan is ready to die, and he sees no other way out of this. Suddenly, he hears his father's voice. "Giving up? A Saiya-jin never gives up." He tells Gohan that he's the strongest in the universe and urges him to fight. Gohan doesn't think he can, but Goku says differently. Despite his doubts, Gohan begins powering up, which amazes everyone else. He raises his good arm and pulls it back. "KAAAA!!!....MEEEEE!!!....HAAAA!!!!...MEEEE!!!!...." Cell forms a Kamehameha of his own. They both sit there and raise their ki, and then fire at the same time. Their blasts meet and create a huge ball at their meeting point. They're about equal, then Cell's blast begins to overtake Gohan's. Gohan is just barely pushing back Cell, but Goku tells him to dig deeper, and that he's not using his full power. Gohan throws more into the blast and gets it back to about a 50/50 standing.

Piccolo's theme begins playing. "I'll stand with you, Gohan." Piccolo flies off behind Cell and blasts him. Without even turning all the way around, Cell blasts him back. Piccolo stands up and drives a Makkankousappo into Cell's back, and he doesn't let up. The other Z Senshi get the idea and step in to help out. Yamucha and Kuririn throw normal ki attacks and Tenshinhan fires constant Kikohou's. They keep getting blasted back, and they keep getting back up and resuming. Finally, they can do no more. They apologize to Goku...but it's not over yet.

A blast comes out of no where and hits Cell in the back. "VEGETA!" The Saiya-jin prince breathes heavily from his spot in the sky. Goku, "NOW!!!" Gohan pumps all he has into the Kamehameha. Cell turns back, but it's too late. "WHAT?!" Gohan's blast gains ground and finally completely overtakes Cell's. Cell begins to break up and disintegrate. Cell is completely destroyed, right down to the very last cell, and Gohan's Kamehameha continues into outerspace, where it dissipates. Gohan collapses and immediately fades out of Super Saiya-jin. The other Z Senshi gather around him, overjoyed at Cell's death. Mr. Satan claims he destroyed Cell, and the people who know the truth don't care either way, so the world buys his story.

The Z Senshi travel to God's Shrine, where Dende summons Shenlon. Trunks is resurrected, but Shenlon says he can do nothing about Son Goku. Goku speaks to them from the afterlife and says he doesn't mind. He says his goodbyes to everyone and tells Gohan that he's very proud of him. Farewell, Son Goku.

Trunks goes back to his time and destroys the Artificial Humans and Cell. In the afterlife, the Kaio's hold an Anoyo Budokai in "honor" of Kaiosama's death, in which Goku participates. Gohan returns to his studies. Peace returns to the Earth.

THE MAJIN BUU SAGA

Gohan starts school in Orange Star City...well, actually, it's now called Satan City, because it's the home of the savior of the world, Mr. Satan. Gohan rides Kintoun into town, then runs to school, because he doesn't want to be found out. He thinks it'd be bad for his friends if everyone realized he was one of the people who fought Cell and how strong he is and everything. On the way to school, he runs across a bank robbery. Making sure no one sees him, he turns Super Saiya-jin and easily defeats the robbers. He turns normal again and starts to leave when a girl asks what happened. He claims he didn't see and runs off.

Gohan reaches school and is introduced to his class. He ends up sitting in the seat next to the seat next to the place where the girl who was at the robbery, Videl (Satansama's daughter, no less) sits. They make some introductions, she's got her doubts about him, and people are talking about the Golden Haired Warrior, who has arrived three times in Satan City. Gohan decides he needs a new disguise and later asks Bulma for a capsule disguise of sorts. She makes one for him, and the Great Saiyaman is born.

Videl is now bent on learning the identity of the Great Saiyaman, and through an unfortunate turn of events for Gohan, she does. In order to keep his secret, she requires that he compete in the upcoming Tenkaichi Budokai, and he grudgingly accepts. Then some great news for Gohan and company... Son Goku is returning from the afterlife for a day to compete in the Tenkaichi Budokai, too. None of them have seen Goku in seven years, since he died at the Cell Game.

Gohan tells Chichi and his younger brother, Goten, the news. They're all happy, and Gohan takes leave from school to train. He asks Goten to train with him and is amazed at his brother's strength. What's even more is when Goten turns Super Saiya-jin...at age seven. At Capsule Corporation, Vegeta and Chibi Trunks train for the Tenkaichi Budokai in a gravity capsule. Trunks complains about the gravity and Vegeta says he should leave, but Trunks wasn't thinking of that. He turns Super Saiya-jin, and Vegeta begins to wonder about the "Super Saiya-jin bargain sale" that appears to be going on.

Because the Great Saiyaman flies and Videl knows who the Great Saiyaman is, she demands Gohan teach her to fly. In training with Goten, Gohan finds that his younger brother doesn't know how to fly, either. He trains them both, and Goten's a bit of a quick learner, but Videl gets it, too. Everyone goes their own way to train, and finally the day arrives.

Gohan (as the Great Saiyaman), Kuririn, Piccolo, Number 18, and Vegeta decide to compete in the tournament. It's agreed on the way to the island that Super Saiya-jin will not be used, because people might recognize them from the Cell Game, and that'd be bad. Trunks and Goten want to compete with them, but they're too young. They get into the children's tournament instead. Son Goku arrives and signs up, as well. The announcer greets them and tells Goku that the tournament hasn't been as good without him. He asks Ma Junior not to destroy the ring again, and Piccolo replies, "We'll see."

Hundreds of people sign up, but only a few can stay to compete. People draw numbers then get in line to test their strength. The strongest 16 people will get to compete, but Satan has a buy of sorts, so only fifteen will pass the eliminations. Satan tests his strength just to show everyone how strong the strongest man in the world is, and scores 137. Number 18 is the first of the Z Senshi to go up, and Kuririn tells her to hold back as much as possible. She taps the tester and registers 774. Everyone's shocked, but they decide it must be broken, so they "fix" it, and she goes again, tapping it even lighter. This time, she scores in the 200s. Each Z Senshi gets in that area, and everyone's astounded. Vegeta doesn't hold back, and actually breaks the machine. Everyone has to wait for it to be fixed, and Gohan is the only one of them who hasn't gone yet. He ends up missing most of the children's tournament, but he and Videl arrive in time for the championship match... Trunks vs. Goten, which Trunks wins.

The real tournament begins. Piccolo will fight Shin, Videl will fight Spopovitch, Gohan will fight Kibit, Kuririn has some noname guy that he easily defeats, Number 18 has Mr. Satan, and Goku will fight Vegeta in the first round. As mentioned, Kuririn easily wins his fight. Then Piccolo and Shin "fight," but before the fight even gets going, Piccolo surrenders. Everyone wonders what's going on in his head, and he realizes that Shin is none other than Kaioshin, the god of the Kaios. Kaioshin tells him not to tell anyone else yet. Videl fights Spopovitch and does really well for a while. She breaks his neck, but he fixes it. At one point, she's disqualified because they think she killed him, but she stays in when he gets back up. In the end, Spopovitch beats the crap out of her, though. Videl is hovering near death and Spopovitch is about to finish her off. Gohan gets so angry he reaches Super Saiya-jin 2, and he almost intervenes when Yamu tells Spopovitch to hurry up and win the match, they didn't come here for this. He does so, and Videl is taken to the hospital. Part of Gohan's disguise was blown off when he turned Super Saiya-jin, so now the only thing covering his face are a pair of sunglasses. It's almost his turn, but Goku has gone to get senzu and hasn't yet returned. He asks for a short extension and it's granted. Goku finally returns and Gohan takes a senzu to Videl. Videl eats it, despite her father yelling at her not to. She's completely healed, and Gohan runs out to fight Kibit.

Gohan steps out onto the field and some of his classmates in the stands recognize him. They cheer him on and he's not happy that they found out who he is, but he takes off the sunglasses and smiles and waves to them. The fight starts. Kibit asks him to turn Super Saiya-jin, and Gohan wonders how he knows about that. Piccolo tells Gohan to do what he says, and Gohan turns Super Saiya-jin 2. Everyone's wondering what just happened, and some people start to recognize him from the Cell Game. Yamu and Spopovitch run out and Kaioshin holds Gohan in place. They steal Gohan's energy and fly off. Kibit heals him and the Z Senshi plus Videl take off. Along the way, it's explained that Yamu and Spopovitch are servants of Babidi, a magician who poses a great threat to the universe. Babidi's father, Bibidi, created Majin Buu, who went on a rampage through the universe thousands of years ago. Majin Buu killed all of the Kaioshin's except for the Kaioshin of the West. Even Dai Kaioshin, the god of all gods, was killed. Bibidi eventually sealed Buu up and sent him to Earth, the next target planet, but died before Buu could continue his reign of terror. Babidi is now trying to gather energy to resurrect Majin Buu, which is why they stole Gohan's energy. They allowed Yamu and Spopovitch to steal Gohan's energy so that they'd lead them back to Babidi's ship. While on the way there, Kibit explains all this to Gohan and Videl. Midway there, Gohan asks Videl to go back, because it could be dangerous, and she complies.

They arrive at the ship and watch from afar as Yamu and Spopovitch give the energy to Babidi. Kaioshin and Kibit are in for quite a shock. Dabura, the king of darkness, walks out of the ship. Kaioshin explains that while Goku and everyone there are probably the strongest people in this universe, Dabura is the strongest in an alternate universe. He's been charmbed by the magician, Babidi, who can take control of the evil in a person's heart and make that person work for him. Yamu and Spopovitch are killed. Dabura knows the Z Senshi are watching, attacks, and spits on Kuririn and Piccolo, turning them to stone. Kibit is killed, and everyone still around goes into the ship. Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, and Kaioshin follow them in. They have to pass five stages to advance toward the heart of the ship. Vegeta goes first and wins easily. Son Goku goes second and also wins. Son Gohan goes third and is forced to fight Dabura, who gives him a bit of a hard time. The fight ends prematurely when Dabura realizes that Vegeta's heart can be charmed.

At the Tenkaichi Budokai, the judges decide to have a Battle Royale to decide the winner. It quickly comes down to Mighty Mask (Goten and Trunks in disguise), Number 18, and Mr. Satan. When the disguise is revealed, Goten and Trunks are out. Number 18 blackmails Satan and throws the fight.

Kaioshin realizes that Dabura must have thought of something or he wouldn't have left. Suddenly, Vegeta starts screaming and having a fit; he turns Super Saiya-jin and the letter M appears on his forehead -- he has been charmed. They're taken to the Tenkaichi Budokai arena by Babidi, where Vegeta proceeds to destroy a section of the stands and the people who were in them. Goku asks for a new venue and Babidi takes them to the middle of no where. He and Vegeta fight it out on the surface while Gohan and Kaioshin proceed into the ship. Before they even get to fight Dabura and Babidi, though, it seems Majin Buu finishes his energy-gathering.

As their fight continues, Vegeta explains that he's unhappy with his softness, and that's why he allowed himself to be charmed. Meanwhile, Majin Buu awakens. He quicky blinds and knocks out Dabura, then sets his sights on Gohan and Kaioshin.

Son Goku and Vegeta pause when they feel the new ki. Goku realizes that the power they just felt was Buu, but Vegeta doesn't care. Goku reminds him that Trunks and Bulma are in danger, but Vegeta says that Babidi's spell eliminated those feelings. However, Vegeta gives in, saying that Goku can't concentrate on the fight until Buu is gone. He asks for a senzu, and with Goku's attention drawn, Vegeta punches him, knocking Goku out. Vegeta leaves to kill Buu himself.

Buu quickly takes care of Gohan and begins working on Kaioshin when he's impaled by Dabura's spear. Buu simply pulls the spear out and heals himself, then turns Dabura into chocolate and eats him. Meanwhile, Goten and Trunks have just arrived and are watching the battle, and with Dabura gone now, Piccolo and Kuririn return to normal.

Vegeta arrives at the scene and takes on Majin Buu. They seem about equally matched at first, but due to Buu's extraordinary healing abilities, Vegeta can't make much of a dent in him. Eventually he opts to blow himself up, hoping to take Buu with him. Piccolo, Kuririn, and the kids fly away while Vegeta performs his suicide attack, but Buu regenerates afterwards, making Vegeta's death a complete waste. However, Son Goku finally comes to and teleports to God's Palace, where he feels Kuririn's and Piccolo's ki. He's filled in and decides to have the kids fuse together into one superwarrior. Before that, though, he teleports to Capsule Corporation and rescues the rest of their friends, who are then all brought up to speed.

The revived Kibit (brought back to life by Shenlon, who was summoned by Bulma and co. on CC's front lawn when Goku arrived) finds Kaioshin and Gohan; they go to Kaioshin Kai, Kaioshin's personal planet, and Gohan is healed. While Gohan trains with the legendary Zetto Sword on Kaioshin Kai, the kids undergo fusion training and Majin Buu begins destroying cities. When Majin Buu gets to the Western Capital, Goku goes to stall him while Trunks rescues the Dragon Radar from the CC building, which is located in that city. Goku uses Super Saiya-jin 3, which no one else even knew he could reach, to fight Buu on pretty equal terms, but rather than killing Buu, he goes back to God's Palace after the Dragon Radar is found. Following the battle, Majin Buu rebels and kills Babidi.

Son Goku is forced to return to the Other World, leaving the fusion training in the able hands of Piccolo. Goku senses Gohan's ki in the Other World and teleports to Kaioshin Kai, where he ends up helping Gohan break the Zetto Sword. Trapped inside, it seems, was a Kaioshin from many generations ago who was permanently fused with a witch. He uses his witch-like powers to unleash all of Gohan's dormant abilities.

On Earth, the kids perfect the fusion, but go to fight Buu without having fused as Super Saiya-jin, making them much weaker than they could be. They're defeated quite easily. Mr. Satan then goes to kill Majin Buu, but is unable to do so and nervously makes friends with him instead. He convinces Buu not to kill anymore, but after some men shoot Satan, Buu gets incredibly angry and spawns a second, evil Buu, who turns the original now-good Buu into chocolate and eats him.

Now able to sense ki, Buu goes to God's Palace to fight a superwarrior who he had been promised by Son Goku. However, Trunks and Goten weren't ready to fuse again yet and in fact were in training in the Room of Spirit and Time. Piccolo tries to stall Buu by saying that Buu was supposed to kill every human first, so Buu unleashes a genocide attack that takes out every single person on the planet except Mr. Satan, who was spared, those at God's Palace, and Ten and Chaouzu, who managed to dodge their intended blasts. Buu agrees to wait an hour before the superwarrior shows up, but gets impatient after a while. Piccolo telepathically warns the kids that he's coming and then takes a very long route to the room.

Inside, Gotenks and Buu fight, but Piccolo thinks Gotenks will lose and destroys the door. Buu is told that he will never be able to have candy again now, so he forms a portal that allows him to escape the room. Turning Super Saiya-jin 3, Gotenks does the same, but he and Piccolo arrive too late to save their friends, who Buu has already turned to chocolate. Gotenks fights Buu at Super Saiya-jin 3 and seems to be in pretty good shape, but then the fusion ends. Hope seems lost until Son Gohan suddenly appears and fights Buu instead. He's too strong for Buu, so Buu uses some trickery to absorb Gotenks while at Super Saiya-jin 3 and Piccolo, and is suddenly too strong for Gohan.

Dai Kaioshin, the old Kaioshin from the sword, donates his life to Goku, thus bringing Goku back to life but killing himself. The halo simply trades heads, basically. Son Goku goes back to Earth with Potara earrings to fuse with Gohan, but Gohan is absorbed and newly arrived Tenshinhan is knocked out. The only option is Satan, until Goku suddenly feels another ki. It seems today is Vegeta's one day back on Earth; however, he's not too anxious to fuse. They fight Buu two on one for a few minutes before Vegeta finally agrees and they form Vegetto.

Vegetto proves a more than worthy adversary for Buu, but rather than defeating Buu, Vegetto allows himself to be absorbed, throwing up a barrier so as not to actually become part of Buu but only to be let inside Buu's body. In there, Vegetto, a supposedly permanent fusion, is split back into Goku and Vegeta and the two of them rescue their friends, as well as the good Majin Buu, who they also find.

The removal of good Majin Buu from Evil Buu sets off some sort of reaction that actually increases Buu's strength but transforms him into his original most fearsome form, Kid Buu. Kid Buu destroys the Earth, and Goku and Vegeta only manage to get away with Dende and Mr. Satan; Piccolo, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks are left to die on the Earth. Buu follows Goku and Vegeta to Kaioshin Kai, where the fight continues. Neither Goku nor Vegeta is strong enough to defeat Buu, though. Kaioshin, Dende, and Dai Kaioshin go to Namek, where the Namekseijin have already anticipated their arrival and gathered the Dragon Balls. Porunga restores the Earth, then revives all of humanity.

Son Goku begins to form a giant Genki Dama while Vegeta stalls Buu. With some help from Satan in actually getting humanity to donate some energy, the Genki Dama is complete. However, Goku is unable to force it down on Buu, who's just too strong. The third wish is made to the Dragon Balls to restore Goku's power. He turns Super Saiya-jin, drops the Genki Dama, and defeats Buu once and for all; however, during the final moments, he says that he wishes for Buu to come back as a good person so they can fight each other.

The Z Senshi celebrate peace time with a party at Bulma's house. Unfortunately, Goku stays to watch some dinosaur eggs hatch and finally arrives just as people are starting to leave. Goku tells the story for everyone, and even Vegeta smiles. Ten years pass. Chibi Trunks has grown and looks exactly like Mirai Trunks (although, obviously, differences in personality are still quite apparent). Son Goten has cut his hair and no longer looks so much like Goku. Chichi's hair has grown out, and Bulma's hair has grown...up. Videl and Gohan are married and live next door to Chichi, Goku, and Goten at Mt. Paozu, with their daughter Pan. A new Tenkaichi Budokai approaches, and Son Goku plans to enter in order to fight an extremely strong fighter.

Upon hearing of Goku's plans, Vegeta decides to enter as well. Goten and Trunks are forced to enter by their fathers, but Gohan, Kuririn, Piccolo, and Videl all decide to be spectators this time around. The Tenkaichi Budokai begins and during the drawing to set up the first round fights, Goku asks Majin Buu to put him in the 3rd spot with his magic, because it's an empty bracket. He then directs Buu on who to give numbers to, and when a small islander boy named Uubu steps up, Goku asks Buu to give him the fourth spot. In the first battle, four-year-old Pan easily defeats a giant, and then Son Goku's battle against Uubu begins. Uubu proves to be quite difficult to fight because he's so nervous that he simply won't. Thus, Goku resorts to trash talk, and good lord is he bad at it. However, it suffices in pissing off Uubu, and the real fight begins. Goku never turns Super Saiya-jin and seems to be about on par with Uubu; however, Uubu would most likely be stronger if he actually knew how to fight. Realizing this, Goku says goodbye to his friends and disappears for who even knows how long to train Uubu so that they can fight for real. Thus ends Dragon Ball Z.
