The Cell
Game
Episodes
161-199
I don't guarantee that these episode titles are correct. I can only go by what little Japanese I know, the shortened title given by most of my fansubs (it only gives half the title), and other episode lists. I will be replacing these titles with the official titles that Daimao uses on the DVDs as they become available.
161. Super Vegeta in Grave Danger!! The
Completely Perfect Terror Draws Near!!
Vegeta finally gets a crack at Perfect Cell, and finds
that Perfection has far surpassed the levels of the Legendary
Super Saiya-jin. Vegeta goes on an offensive only to find that
his power is nothing to Cell's, and even when he hits a weak
point on Cell with an incredible kick, Cell is completely
unfazed.
162. Break Through the Limits of the
Super Saiya-jin!! Trunks Summons a Storm
Vegeta finally plays his trump card. As Cell stands
below, completely sure of himself, Vegeta rises into the air and
begins raising his ki up. Finally, he attacks with his Final
Flash. Unfortunately, only part of the right side of Cell's body
is destroyed, and he simply regenerates it. After Vegeta gets
beaten up, Trunks goes insane and his ki begins to rise despite
his efforts to control it. In fact, Kuririn even fears that he's
going to lose his mind as Goku did when he changed into an
Oozaru.
163. Save Your Father!! Trunks' Anger
Scorches the Heavens
Super Saiya-jin Trunks takes on Perfect Cell. He allows
himself to be beaten for a while, allowing Kuririn an opportunity
to rescue the unconscious Vegeta. After Kuririn and Vegeta are
clear, Trunks begins to raise his ki and goes Ultimate Super
Saiya-jin Stage 3 (otherwise known as True Ultimate SSJ), and the
real battle begins.
164. Future of Despair!! The Man Who
Lived Through Hell, Trunks
The fight continues as Trunks and Cell trade stories of
the past (er, future?). Trunks once again describes for us the
hellish future from which he comes, and Cell tells us all about
the Earth of the future that lacked Artificial Humans for
absorbing. Finally, during a pause in the battle, Cell actually
admits that Trunks is stronger, but still remains quite sure of
himself, and predicts his own victory.
165. Weakness in Super Trunks! Cell's
Very Shocking Statement
Trunks and Cell continue their battle. Trunks begins to end up on
the losing end, and finally, it becomes apparent why. In his
current state, though Trunks' strength exceeds Cell, he's
incredibly slow. Trunks, realizing victory is out of reach,
phases out of Super Saiya-jin and allows Cell to kill him.
However, rather than kill him, Cell inquires as to whether or not
Trunks could become even more powerful than he is now in just as
short an amount of time, and when Trunks replies that he wouldn't
know unless he tried, Cell announces Cell's Game, a fighting
tournament not unlike the Tenkaichi Budokai, except that Cell
will always be the opponent.
166. Goku Informed of the Great Battle!!
Myth of a New Tenkaichi Budokai
Let me just say that title is really shaky, so I
wouldn't trust the first half of it if I were you. Anyway, Trunks
relates his story to Kuririn and Vegeta and everyone prepares for
Cell's Game. Everyone meets up at Capsule Corporation, where
Number 16 undergoes repairs. Meanwhile, Goku and Gohan continue
their training in the Room of Spirit and Time, and Cell builds a
stage for his tournament.
167. Viewer Rating 100%!! Live Coverage
of the Deadly Cell Game
Cell borrows a television station to announce his
tournament to the world, and training continues inside the Room
of Spirit and Time.
168. The Super Power of Goku and
Gohan... Increase Your Power To the Max
Son Goku and Gohan emerge from the Room of Spirit and
Time. After a nice snack, Goku checks up on Cell. They size each
other up, then Goku returns to God's Shrine, where he announces,
to everyone else's shock (including Gohan's) that they've no need
for the Room of Spirit and Time again, and that their nine days
of training on Earth will be more than sufficient.
169. Goku's Composure?! Just Relax and
Wait for the Cell Game
Goku pays Karin a visit where he shows off the results
of his training. However, his ki is so immense that Karin fears
the entire tower will break apart if Goku continues, so he's
forced to stop at what he states is about half of his power. Both
decide that, though he is incredibly strong, he's probably still
not any match for Cell. After visiting Karin, Goku and Gohan go
to Kame House to retrieve Chichi, who is completely shocked to
see Gohan a Super Saiya-jin.
170. The Fighters Relax... The Girl, the
Lie, and Gohan's Decision
Gohan goes out to get some spices for Chichi and happens
upon a town where a rich man is building a Shelter Dome to
protect everyone from Cell. However, the people are practically
being forced to help out by the man's thugs. Gohan sides with an
old man and his granddaughter who are against the Shelter Dome,
and Gohan meets Tao Pai Pai. Upon finding out that Gohan is Son
Goku's son, Tao Pai Pai flees. Gohan destroys the Shelter Dome,
and then Goku arrives looking for him.
171. The Hidden Strength!! When Gohan
Was a Baby
While preparing for Gohan's birthday party (it's not
really his birthday, but he aged a year in the Room of Spirit and
Time), Chichi happens upon an old Son family photo album. She
flips through it, recalling different events of Gohan's past.
Finally, it's time for the party, but Gohan accidentally destroys
his entire cake.
172. Find a New God!! Goku's Shunkan
Idou
After the military launches an attack on Cell that goes
completely to hell, Goku decides that it's necessary to find a
new God to revive the Dragon Balls. He attempts to teleport to
New Namek, but finds that he can't sense ki that far away, so he
seeks assistance from Kaiousama.
173. Dende's First Job!! Revive the
Dragon Balls
Goku teleports to New Namek with help from Kaiousama,
where he finds a Namekseijin who's willing to become God of the
Earth, and it just happens to be Dende. He takes Dende back to
Kaiousama's planet, then to Earth. Back on Earth, Dende is
reunited with Kuririn and Gohan. He revives Shenlon and the
search for the Dragon Balls begins.
174. Wisely Snatching the Dragon Balls!?
Mr. Satan Shows his Stuff
Pretty damn sure that title is completely wrong, but
I'll fix it when the official title comes out. Anyway, Goku runs
around collecting Dragon Balls, and the champion of the 24th
Tenkaichi Budokai, Mr. Satan, steps forward claiming that he will
defeat Cell and save the world.
175. Prelude to the Final Battle!! Mr.
Satan Will Fight First
Everyone slowly arrives at Cell's Game. First, Mr. Satan
and his entourage. Then, Vegeta, followed shortly by Number 16.
After Number 16 came the rest of the Z Senshi. Mr. Satan remains
completely confident in the presence of the strongest forces in
the universe.
176. Here Comes Satan's Army!! Mr. Satan
Is Beaten By a Single Hit
Some of Satan's fans arrive and decide they'll fight
first so that their teacher doesn't even have to get his hands
dirty. After they both lose miserably, Satan himself goes up to
fight Cell, but unfortunately for the world,
he..."slips" and flies several hundred meters off the
stage. Oh yeah, and Cell might have hit him, but it was all
because he slipped, really. After that disgusting display, the
Legendary Super Saiya-jin, Son Goku, steps up onto the stage.
177. Goku and Cell Square Off!! The
Completely Exciting Cell's Game
Satan makes up an excuse for the world audience while
Goku and Cell begin the real fight. They seem about even as the
fight progresses, and later when Goku begins to raise his ki,
Satan and the reporter are completely stunned by his golden glow.
178. Direct Hit on Earth!! Cell's
Kamehameha
As the battle continues, Cell decides to show off some
of the different techniques he knows. Finally, he comes to
Kamehameha, and Goku is forced to fly away so that his Kamehameha
will go into space, rather than attacking the Earth.
179. Lose or Die?! Goku's Secret
Turnabout Plans
And still, the battle goes on. Goku finally comes up
with a plan. While Cell waits on the ground, Goku flies into the
air and begins to charge up a full-power Kamehameha. To
everyone's shock, he seems to be prepared to fire it straight
down at Cell and the Earth. However, for most of the power up,
Cell remains confident that Goku will in fact not harm the Earth
like this. Much to his surprise, Goku's Kamehameha continues to
charge, but at the last second, Goku teleports right in front of
Cell and hits him with a full-power Kamehameha from inches away,
no harm done to the planet.
180. The End of the Desperate Struggle!!
Goku's Surrender!?
Cell regenerates everything destroyed by the Kamehameha
(basically, everything above his waist) and the battle resumes.
Goku more and more begins to appear on the lower end of the
spectrum, and to everyone's shock, he finally surrenders.
181. Someone Who Will Succeed the
Strongest... His Name is Gohan
Goku asks if he can nominate the next contestant, and
Cell allows him to, but says that because Trunks, Vegeta, and
Piccolo are all weaker than he, Goku shouldn't nominate them.
Stunning everyone, Goku ignored all three of them and called on
Gohan. Despite argument from the other Z Senshi, Goku holds to
his plan and convinces Gohan to at least give it a try. Gohan
goes in and raises his ki, which, though higher than everyone
expected, still doesn't exactly make them hopeful for Earth's
future. Finally, the fight begins and Gohan appears to be
relatively well matched with Cell until Cell decides to use his
full speed and their differences quickly become apparent.
182. Gohan, Get Mad · Release the
Sleeping Power Within
Gohan gets beaten up pretty badly, but states that he
has confidence in his ability to beat Cell. Cell is incredulous,
and Gohan explains that he understands why Goku chose him.
Throughout his entire life (we get to see flashbacks as he
explains specific scenes), he's always experienced enormous power
boosts when angered. Cell doesn't believe him, but sets out to
make him angry all the same. Must be those Saiya-jin cells.
183. Miniature Threats!! The Cell
Juniors
Cell finds that physical attacks on Gohan don't make him
angry enough to reach this new level of power, so he resorts to
another possibility. Number 16 attacks him, but after finding his
self-destruct device was removed, Cell simply blows him apart.
Then, using Piccolo's ability to create offspring, he spits out
seven Cell Juniors and has them attack the Z Senshi on the cliff.
184. Number 16's Last Words!! Super
Gohan Is Born
The Z Senshi continue their futile struggle against the
Cell Juniors, and Gohan's anger level continues to rise, but not
over the breaking point. Meanwhile, Number 16's head, which
landed near Satan's crew, asks to be taken to Son Gohan. Everyone
says not to do it, but Satan is ashamed enough as it is and
agrees to help out in this way. He carries the head over, then
tosses it to Gohan. The head gives a small speech before Cell
destroys it. Number 16's final and decisive death ends it all,
and Gohan's anger explodes in an incredible display that stops
everything.
185. Anger Exploding Into Power!! Cell
Juniors Destroyed
Gohan's ki continues to rise and he becomes the first Z
Senshi (perhaps the first Saiya-jin) ever to reach Super
Saiya-jin level 2. He takes back the senzu, which Cell had
previously stolen, then quickly and easily kills each Cell Junior
in a single hit. Finally, he moves in on Cell himself.
186. Cell Is KOed!! Gohan's Incredible
Two Punches
Perfect Cell quickly finds that he's no match for Super
Saiya-jin 2 Son Gohan. Gohan has far surpassed him in every
category. Cell finally gets angry and begins to raise his ki as
high as he can. In response, Gohan cripples him with just two
punches. What a bad ass, eh?
187. A Disaster For Cell!! The Perfect Body Breaks Down
Well, the second half of that title is probably wrong,
but being that it's not all translated on my fansub and my
Japanese is...quite lacking... Anyway, as Gohan continues to
throw Cell around, Cell decides to throw a giant Kamehameha from
the sky. Gohan counters with an even stronger Kamehameha, and
both blasts fly straight at Cell. His body is left in a shambles,
but he easily regenerates everthing. He undergoes a
transformation somewhat like Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 3 in
which he becomes immensely strong, but very slow. Gohan very
easily dodges each hit, and Gohan still manages to deal quite a
blow with a strong kick to the face. Cell's body begins to break
down and Number 18 is spit out.
188. Bye Bye, Everyone! Goku's Final
Teleportation
With Number 18 gone, Cell is left in his medium stage.
Now any of the non-human Z Senshi could take him without trouble.
Recognizing how little his chances of winning are, Cell goes for
broke and begins to bloat up into a giant bomb that will destroy
the entire planet. Too late to do anything about it, Gohan falls
to his knees, completely hopeless. Goku, on the other hand, comes
up with a strategy of his own. He says his goodbyes to everyone,
then talks to Gohan personally before teleporting Cell to
Kaiousama's planet. Cell self-destructs, killing himself, Goku,
Kaiousama, Gregory, and Bubbles. Oh no, not Bubbles! However,
back on Earth, a great force suddenly returns. Trunks falls dead
with a hole in his chest... Cell survived, and he now possesses
both a permanent Perfect form and the ability to teleport.
189. A Nightmare Is Reborn!! The
Absolute Terror
Cell tells his story of survival. When it finishes,
Vegeta becomes incredibly angry and launches an all out attack on
Cell. He can't believe that he, the Prince of the Saiya-jin, has
been outdone by a low-class warrior like Son Goku or his son.
However, the whole attack is for naught when Vegeta finds that
Cell has emerged without a scratch. Cell launches a counterattack
of his own in the form of a giant ki blast. Vegeta is dead for
sure until Gohan jumps to his aid. The attack leaves Vegeta
alive, but Gohan without use of his left arm, which is now
shredded and bloody. Cell prepares to end it all with a
Kamehameha.
190. From Father to Son!! Goku's Spirit
Passed Down
Gohan has completely given up and accepted that death is
imminent. Cell decides we all need to hear his life story AGAIN,
so he tells it. He finally gets ready to fire Kamehameha and
destroy everything when Goku contacts Gohan telepathically via
Kaiousama. Goku encourages Gohan to fight back and says that a
Saiya-jin never gives up. Though unsure of his own abilities,
Gohan complies with his father's wishes and begins raising his
ki, much to the surprise of everyone else present. Finally, both
of them fire their Kamehameha's simultaneously.
191. The Fight Is Over... Thank You, Son
Goku
The two Kamehameha's meet in the middle, and neither is
able to overtake the other. Cell's is obviously the more
powerful, though, because when they're not at a 50/50 standing,
it's because Cell's has gained ground over Gohan's. From the
afterlife, Goku cheers his son on and encourages him to dig
deeper, and that he can generate more power than this. Fed up
with their helplessness, the other Z Senshi step in to assist
Gohan, despite the futility of their attacks. Cell easily bats
them all away without taking his focus from Gohan, until the
Prince of the Saiya-jin steps in. While the blast itself is not
damaging, it draws his attention away. Son Gohan puts all he's
got into his Kamehameha, and it finally overtakes Cell's. Cell is
completely vaporized down to the very last cell, finally dead for
good.
192. I'll Be Training In the Other
World!! A Smiling Farewell
The Z Senshi go to God's Shrine, where Number 18 regains
consciousness and Shenlon is summoned. Shenlon confirms what the
Z Senshi already knew - Son Goku cannot be revived. Trunks is
resurrected, and everyone says their goodbyes.
193. Trunks, Leaving for the Future
The scene at God's Shrine wraps up and Trunks heads back
to Capsule Corporation for the night. The next day, everyone
shows up (including Goku's spirit) to wish Trunks goodbye. Trunks
climbs into his time machine and goes back to the future.
194. I'll Protect the Future!! Trunks
Eradicates Number 17, Number 18, and Cell
Trunks tells Mirai Bulma about what happened while he
was away. Over the radio, they hear about another Artificial
Human attack. Trunks takes off his jacket and prepares to go
fight them. Bulma is still not sure he should, but he assures her
he's fine and he goes. After arriving there, he finds the
Artificial Humans as confident as ever, but he quickly puts them
in their place with his new strength. Then, much later, Cell
arrives to steal the time machine as Trunks prepares to go back
in time to let the Z Senshi know that the Artificial Humans have
been destroyed. Trunks, knowing what's supposed to happen, calls
out to Cell from behind the wall. He and Cell go off to another
location away from the city, and Trunks easily kills Cell. Peace
returns to Earth after 20 years.
195.
The Strongest in the Other World - Goku Confronts the Ginyu
Tokusentai, Freezer, and Cell
Goku and Kaiousama travel to Dai Kaiousama's planet to
meet Dai Kaiousama and see if he'll train Goku. While they're
there, Goku meets Paikuhan, another warrior who looks and acts a
lot like Piccolo. While meeting with Dai Kaiousama, they're told
that Cell is making trouble in Hell, and Goku and Paikuhan go off
to fix things. Goku easily takes on the Ginyu Tokusentai then
gets ready for Freezer, King Cold, and Cell. Cell attacks Goku
and everyone is shocked when Paikuhan effortlessly knocks him
away. Freezer and company are defeated and locked up and all is
well again in Hell.
196.
An Assembly of Fighters from All Eras... Goku Enters Dai
Kaiousama's Tournament
Dai Kaiousama decides to hold an Anoyo-ichi Budokai,
saying he will personally train the winner. Everyone is excited
about the possibility of being trained by Dai Kaiousama. Then,
well, the tournament begins. Victories of note in the first round
are those of Olive, Paikuhan, and of course, Son Goku.
197.
Hold Your Breath! The Goku Hurricane
The tournament continues. Goku's opponent is a fish man
who seems pretty weak until he floods the ring with water.
Suddenly, he has an overwhelming advantage and things look bleak
for Goku. However, with a Taiyo-ken, Goku finally escapes the
water, then with a Kamehameha, manages to win the battle. Olive
and Paikuhan fight next, and after a fierce battle, Paikuhan
comes out on top.
198.
The Final Round!! Goku and Paikuhan!?
Son Goku has one more opponent before he can reach the
championship, and when he finally wins, it's time for him to
fight Paikuhan. Kaiousama makes a bet with West Kaiou. If Goku
wins, Kaiousama get's West Kaiou-sei. If Paikuhan wins, Kaiousama
will be West Kaiou's slave forever. Finally, the battle begins.
They seem more or less evenly matched. Paikuhan seems a bit
stronger at first, but Goku comes back midway through the fight.
Finally, they take a quick break so that Paikuhan can relieve
himself of all his weighted clothes. Goku then takes the
opportunity to turn Super Saiya-jin.
199.
What? Disqualification!! Full Power Kamehameha
The battle finally ends with what appears to be Goku's
win. However, Dai Kaiousama claims that both he and Paikuhan were
disqualified after stepping out of the ring simultaneously when
they both used their legs to catapult themselves off the ceiling.
Thus, neither Kaiou wins his bet and no one will be trained by
Dai Kaiousama.
